Letter From the Editor

Happy Mother's Day!

We never made too big a deal out of Mother's Day because my husband and I lived with my mom and dad. But it's not what you think. They were our best friends.

Also our wedding anniversary is May 8th. so it always got in the way of celebrating Mother's Day. ( We got married at Graceland in Vegas which was appropo being in the music business! ) Then on our first anniversary we had a big Jewish wedding. But it was on May 5th, so we have two!  And we'd usually go away and give my mom a break for Mother's Day.

My mom passed away from lung cancer 13 years ago and my husband and I miss her every day. She was our pal, our friend, and my mom. She and I  didn't always get along when I was growing up but marrying my husband actually brought us closer together. She adored him and he was a buffer between us, plus I grew up.

My brother gets mad at me because I never go to the cemetery. But I don't have to; she's in my heart. And I know she'd be so proud if she could see what I've accomplished.

So Happy Mother's Day, Mom. And if your mom is still around, remember the Joni Mitchell lyric, "You don't know what you've got til it's gone."

So be sure to let your mom know how much you love her this Mother's Day!

On the homefront, it was a false alarm. Christen doesn't have a tumor on his pancreas. Thank God! He was having symptoms from his diabetes and he's doing much better. Thank you for all the healing energies!

Discover The First 3 Critical Steps To Writing An Outrageously Profitable eBooks!

The first 3 steps to writing a profitable ebook are absolutely critical and most people either don’t do them properly or they don’t do them at all. Without them, writing an ebook is just a shot in the dark; with them, it can be the door to a whole new way of life!

The three steps are finding your passion, finding your skill set, and finding your target market. The key is to make sure you find something that you are passionate about and good at that will be of interest to a target market that is online, has money, and won’t hesitate to spend it on the products and services that you offer.

It’s also important that you pick a target market that you understand, because you want to be able to communicate with them and if you don’t understand them, you will have a difficult time connecting with them. It is the connection between you and your market that paves the way for your success. This is called having an “affinity” for your market.

So let’s look at these 3 critical steps:

1.  First,  pick something you are passionate about, because once you pick a niche and a topic, it is something that you are going to be talking about for quite a while, if not years.  So it must be something that you are naturally enthusiastic about and preferably never get tired of talking and writing about!

When people pick something they are not passionate about they often can’t stay motivated long enough to finish their ebook, let alone build a whole business around! And if you sound bored when you talk about your subject, your listeners will pick up on it and you won’t be successful.

2.  But it’s not enough to be passionate; you also have to be good at what you ultimately choose. In other words, it has to be a good fit. If you love kids but are impatient, that’s not a good fit.  Or if you want to write copy but you are slow and can only write one sales page a month, (especially if you live in Los Angeles) you’ll starve to death so it’s probably not a good fit!  So you have to look at what you are passionate about AND what you are good at and see where they overlap.

3.  Next you have to  find a hungry target market that will jump at the products and services you offer and empty their pockets of cash every time you release something new.  To get them to do this, you have to find out what their problems are and how to solve them in a way that will make you stand out from the crowd.

But before you can do that, you have to figure out what target markets would want, what you are passionate about and good at, and where they are hanging out online, or if they are even online. Then you can begin to study them to figure out how to combine their needs and wants with  your passion and skill set for a winning topic, a winning ebook, and a successful future!

Reader's Q&A

Q. Do you recommend self-editing?

A. It really depends on your level of skill. If you can walk away and come back with fresh eyes, great. But it's always good to have somebody else who's objective read it as well. In the workshop, somebody else will read it for you. We do peer editing.

Q. If one asks for people to contribute to the ebook, what does one pay them, if anything, for their contributions? Like I would be the editor?

A. It really depends, but the approach I would take is to get them to give a bonus and get sign-ups from your offer and not pay anything. I would try to steer clear of people who want to get paid. Especially in the beginning, because it will be an accounting headache.
