Letter From the Editor

Labor-Day Weekend Edition

One week of vacation wasn't enough but it was great. Luckily Labor Day is right around the corner! But on my vacation, I slept, re-read, Tim Ferris's "The 4-Hour Work Week" and realized I hadn't implemented any of it. I sat on the beach, took walks and  watched the sail boats go by.  And the weather was perfect. High 70's to low 80's.

Then my husband, Christen, and I  went to see VickyChristinaBarcelona.  (I love Woody Allen Movies)
I wanted to see Mama Mia and The Dark Knight too but just couldn't tear myself away from the beach! (We saw Mama Mia the next weekend!)

I also really used this time to evaluate where I am in my business and where I want to go. Sometimes our most creative times are when we are quiet and give the mind a rest.  One of my students called it "bath time" which is how she gets quiet so she can hear her inner voice..

It's amazing to look back and realize how much my business has grown. And how gratifying it is to have students who couldn't get an ebook done jumping with joy over their creations! Or watching a student go from no income to $15,000 to $20,000 a month!

And, what I've learned is that there are different stages in your business and your goals and desires can change over time. You learn skills and they get you to a point and then you need different skills and it’s a never-ending process.

(I was just reading about all the changes eBay is making, so trust me when I say we’re all  tinkering with our businesses all the time! ) because the key is to continue to provide better and better services and products in the most efficient and effortless way possible.

You also learn about yourself, what you love to do and what you don’t love to do what you are good at and what would better be left to someone else. And as long as you have the courage to keep being honest with yourself, and take action,  you never have to settle for something that isn’t working for you, you just have to adjust course and continue to learn.

For me that means more systems, less busy-work, and more time with my students!

On my vacation I realized 2 things that I needed to do IMMEDIATELY! And took action:

1. Unsubscribed from a lot of lists that weren’t relevant to what I am working on right now, (I got more efficient at email to save time so I have more time for you!)

2.  I will continuously  ask myself, "Is this something I need to do or can somebody else do it? And then have the discipline  to NOT do it if someone else can!

I hope you follow my lead and and TAKE ACTION to keep growing  and refining your business, working smarter and making more money!

Oh, and if you haven’t done this lately……take a vacation!  You never know what break through you can have until you do!

How To Create A Profitable eBook From Your Newsletter Or Ezine

First, pick a point you want to make. Pick some aspect of what you want to write about develop that theme over a series of ezine. Each theme can then become a chapter in your ebook.

So let's say you are talking about relationships. You could talk about
communication between you and your spouse, or you and your child, or parent. So a number of installments in your ezine would talk about communication.

You'd ask your readers "What do you want to know about communication?" And, they'll tell you. Then you'd deliver that information. What you're doing is creating a cohesive whole.

And as you're writing it-if you keep in mind and you should keep in mind what it is you've done prior (the week before and the week before that, so you're building your narrative) then you actually have
a small ebook based just on that piece of relationship about conflict,
about sex , about intimacy, or about playing whatever.

You have a little ebook because you have done three, four or five of these and then you can easily come up with a collection of ebooks
on your topic dealing with subsets of your general topic.

This article was created from my interview with Judith Sherven and Jim Sniechowski at the Virtual eBook Expo 2

Q & A

Q: What's the first thing I need to do after I create my ebook?

A: If you did not test your title and subtitle before you wrote your ebook then do it now. Coming up with a great title that sells your ebook is half the battle!

If you already have your title and you are SURE it's a winner, then  get to work on your ebook cover. If  you are using a graphic artist, once you have a basic idea or some pictures to show him or her of what you have in mind, you can send it off and start working on the other pieces while you wait to get it back.

Q: What's the best thing to give away for free when people come to my mini-site to purchase my ebook?

A: It depends on your ebook. When I created my eBook Journal for Authoring Success (www.e-bookjournal.com) I decided to give a way a sample because it is a workbook and I wanted people to be able to experience the format before purchasing.  If you don't want to give away part of your ebook, you can use tips, an ecourse, a special report, video or a combination.

I like to have something that has at least 7 parts to it because it usually takes people 5 to 7 times of having contact with you before they are ready to make a purchase. And since there are so many sites to choose from, an ecourse is better than tips because it has more value.

But if you are just getting started you might want to start with tips and then expand them into an ecourse later.
