Newsletter 13 Issue 28

A personal note from Ellen:

Yesterday was the 15th anniversary of 9-11. That’s when the towers came down and the terrorists tried to crash into the Capitol.  On this day, we remembered the fallen, the injured, the survivors, and the many acts of bravery that took place that day and in the weeks and months following it.

I want to impart one particular story that touched me. It was about a women, Lauren Manning, who was a former executive and partner at Cantor Fitzgerald. She was burned over 80% of her body; but she refused to let the terrorists claim one more murder and count her among the 2996 people who were killed that day, including 658 people from her firm who died in the attack. Talk about not giving up! What an inspiration.

And speaking of never giving up….Do you ever feel like you work hard, but you aren’t getting anywhere? Then, be sure to read this edition’s article below.

In other business news…. Betsy Hall, my mastermind partner, and I are gearing up for the next Author’s Profit Incubator Mastermind. It starts September 22 and will take authors right up to Christmas to help make this holiday season your best EVER! !

It’s also getting to be crunch time, if you want to get in on my collaboration book,  How to Crush it in Business, without Crushing Your Spirit, How Entrepreneurs Can Overcome Depression and Find Success! These are two ways to make sure you ROCK it for the rest of the year!

In personal news, I took a day off and drove up the coast with Christen to visit with my brother. I hadn’t seen in at least two years and I almost didn’t do it because I had it in my mind that I needed to finish my Labor Day promotion at the time .

But, then I thought about it. I did not HAVE to do it. I just told myself I did. So, I moved the deadline and instead of releasing it on Friday or Saturday, I waited until Monday and made it a 2-Day sale instead of a 3- or 4-day sale.

Would I have gotten more sales if it had been a longer sale? Probably, but sometimes it just isn’t worth it. The thing is to be conscious of the decisions you are making, so you don’t end up resenting your work and missing out on some of the greatest joys in your life!  And, you have to make sure that you examine your thoughts and decide if it is really even the truth.

Life is too short!

That’s it for now…..

Seven Productivity & Time-Management Tips for Authors

Do you ever feel like you’re spinning your wheels in your business? I know that I have felt that way many times-less often now, but I totally get it. It’s not true, of course, but sometimes it feels that way. So, here are some tips to overcome it.

1. Keep different goal lists, one for daily goals (a to-do list), one for monthly goals, one for yearly goals, 5-year goals, and long-term goals. When you make you to-do lists, make sure to include something that will move you in the direction of your longer-term goals. Also, when you look at your to-do lists, ask yourself:

a. What must be done today? (Do the most important tasks first.)

b. What can I outsource? Then, outsource what you can.

c. What can I systematize to save time?

d. What’s the best use of my time? (What are the top money-making priorities)

Then, do what needs to be done and can only be done by you, and include a money-making priority as often as possible!

2. Schedule time on your calendar for your tasks. (What isn’t scheduled won’t get done.)

3. Work for 50 minutes at a time and take a 10 minutes break and be sure to get up from your workspace to do it.
Set your timer so you don’t miss your breaks!

4. Stop multi-tasking at work as much as possible. Multi-tasking actually slows you down.

5. To get more hours out of your day, use downtime to listen to podcasts and/or audio books (while driving in the car, or working out, or fixing dinner).
This is not the same as multi-tasking at work.

6. Take time to review them at least once a month.

7. When you find yourself feeling disappointed that you aren’t making as much progress as fast as you had hoped (and you will at some point), look at testimonials and positive posts from clients, customers, and students to give you the motivation you need to keep moving forward.
