“It is said that power corrupts, but actually it’s more true that power attracts the corruptible. The same are usually attracted by other things than power.

-David Brin”

Letter from the Editor

Happy Martin Luther King Day. A day to serve your community! Martin Luther King was the chief spokesperson for non-violent activism in the Civil Rights Movement in America, which fought racial discrimination.Unfortunately, it is just as relevant today as when MLK was alive.

We must continue to be diligent and speak out where we see injustice, and right the wrongs where we can, in my opinion, because bad things happen when good people do nothing. Enough said.

In business news….The Best-Sellers Summit is coming up. It starts Monday.  Ron Douglas and Alice Seba are your hosts and they did a free webinar on the 5 Lessons Ron learned selling 1.4 million books which I promoted and listened to;  it was the real deal.  (This is what is really takes to sell a huge amount of books!)

It was so good that I got them to set up a special page for my subscribers. So, if you missed it, be sure to go to http://www.bestsellerssummit.com/replay-ellen and watch it! Even if you don’t attend the Summit. But, it’s only $24 right now for 4 full days of training on how to build your audience and sell more books. Something everyone reading this should be interested in! So I highly recommend it.

In other business news, I decided that I needed to work on myself this year so I signed up for Brendon Burchard’s Achievement Accelerator. We recently had our monthly live call with him, and he talked about how no one can make you feel anything and how you are responsible for your moods and how you react to people and situations around you.

If you have followed me for any length of time, you know that I am honest with my clients and students. I will tell you the truth about your book, your business, your attitude-whatever needs help. Why? Because I want you to succeed. And you won’t succeed if you don’t upgrade what isn’t working! But, I have to admit, on occasion, I have had someone say to me that I made them feel bad. And that’s why this training has been so important for me. I am learning tools from Brendon to deal with it.

How about you? Do you have someone in  your life that tells you that you make them feel bad? I posted his quote in social media: “You are not responsible for the hot mess of other people’s lives.”. Memorize this and I promise you, you’ll feel so much better!

That’s it for now…..

9 Top Ways to Make Money With Books & eBooks Online in 2016!
(For little or no money!)

1. Do a Best-Seller Launch or a giveaway (with a bonus-package incentive)
Or, do a Countdown if it’s fiction or higher-priced.

KDP Best-seller Launches allow you to give away your book for 5 days out of every 90 days as long as you give Amazon an exclusive (That means you can’t sell it anywhere else during that time). KDP launches are great for new authors because you can get a lot of exposure, build your list, and make money doing it.  They are also great for savvy-experienced authors because you can use them to refresh your list, get exposure and make money doing it.

I have done both KDP launches and Countdown launches, and I made more money with KDP because the regular price of the book was in the $3-$4 range, and I had about the same amount of sales in both. So, I made about $2 a book with KDP and 99 cents with the Countdown books.  However, if your book is higher -priced, you could make more money with a Countdown offer; it depends on the price of your book.

2. Do a joint venture one at a time or with several targeted list owners (can combine with a launch)
Joint ventures are one of the easiest ways to make money fast online. The key is to find a list owner or owners who target the same audience that you are trying to reach, and then make it attractive to them to partner with you.  It’s easier to do this if you build the relationships first and if you do something for them before asking them to partner with you. It is also easier to get JV partners at live events where people are there to network, make connections, and find opportunities to make money.

If you invite joint-venture partners to participate in your best-seller launch, you will reach a wider and more targeted audience than if you only put your announcements in sites that drive traffic to your offer. However, I have gotten #1 Best-Seller ranking for myself and most of my clients without using them.

But,  if you also want to make big money on your launch with a live-training bonus offer  after your free giveaway (to ramp up sales and take advantage of the momentum of the free launch), then you need joint-venture partners. I have seen people make between $1,000  to $30,000 for a live event doing this.

3. Do a book reading (Google Hangout, Periscope, offline Library or Book store)
People love to connect with authors and serious book lovers and buyers will come to a book reading, which you can do either on or offline. You can also do a Q & A after the reading and you can even sign autographs in person, or send them out from online events.

4. Do a group event. The reason group events are so successful is that instead of you having to promote the event by yourself, you will have a group of authors promoting as well, so you will reach a much larger audience. You can do a  livestream book tour on Blab with 3 other people at any given time and you can rotate others in throughout the call, or Google Hangouts with nine other people, or on Facebook.  You can also do a writing event on Facebook or Twitter where you have several authors promote their books and answer questions at different times during the event. (Schedule them ahead of time for each hour.)

5. Periscope. Periscope is a live streaming platform that is owned by Twitter that can only be used from an Android or iPhone at this time.  Periscope allows you to talk to your audience in real time, but unless you have someone in the room with you, you can’t bring on other guests. But, the beauty of Periscope is that it is raw and authentic and people love authenticity!

Make some notes before you go on the air so you know the general direction you want to go in, but keep looking at and talking to your audience as much as possible when you are live. Also, be sure to get a tripod or the picture will be very choppy. I wasn’t happy with the first one I bought so I returned it and got this one which I love so I highly recommend it. 6. Guest Blog. Find influencers in your niche and ask to write a blog post for them. Since they already have a following, you can get a lot of exposure and sales based on their implied recommendation (since it’s their blog). It works best if you create relationships through social media and live networking first. It also helps to do something to support them and their business first before asking them to support yours. BTW, if your content is relevant to my target market, you are welcome to apply as a guest blogger. See “Announcements above”

7. Write a press release. Writing a good press release can get your book in front of a lot of people quickly and without spending a lot of money. It can also lead to other opportunities that convert to BIG book sales!

8. Write a blog post or article. Content is king in today’s marketingplace. The more posts you write that have great content, the more exposure and sales you will get. Studies show that blogs that crank out 16+ blogs a month get 4 times more traffic that ones that don’t.

To create a lot of content, repurpose what you already have. And, don’t overlook leveraging content from other people. Find guest bloggers for your blog and follow Goole Alerts to find high-quality content that will be of interest to your tribe.

9. Create a 30-day monthly book marketing plan for passive income. One of my favorite ways to market books is with best-seller launches, but you can only do them 5 days out of every 90 days.  I like them because you get a huge spike in traffic, leads, and sales when done right and they give you ranking, which can make you a #1 best-seller! So the more you do them the more times you become a #1 best-seller. And doesn’t it just sound better to say “I’m a 5-time #1 best-selling author” than to say, “I’m a best-selling author”? But, for sales 24/7, you need a monthly book-marketing plan. This will give you steady sales and over time will pay big dividends!
