Letter from the Editor

It’s  Breast Cancer Awareness Month! My mother, grandmother, great uncle, and great-grand-mother all had breast cancer, and it killed my grandmother. I am also a 7-year survivor, so breast-cancer awareness is very important to me and my family. It’s put on by major breast cancer charities to raise awareness and funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure.

Because breast cancer runs in my family, I was advised to get a mammogram yearly starting at age 40.  There are now studies that suggest that doing this can actually cause cancer. A safer alternative that is recommended by top doctor, Dr. Christine Northrup, and many others on the cutting edge is thermogram instead. Every woman should do what she feels is right for her, but I wanted to share this in case it saves even one woman the heartbreak I have experienced in my view unnecessarily.

Thoughts for the week. We all need help at some time in our life, and sometimes it can be difficult to ask for it. But, when your back is against the wall, you have to ask for help.  It’s better to be a good friend upfront, help others so that when you need help you will be surrounded by people who will be more than happy to help. I have been very blessed. I have always gotten the help I needed-not always as quickly as I would have liked- but I got it because I was sincere, ernest, and honest and helpful to others and I had goodwill chips in the bank that came in handy when I needed them. I also was willing to help others first before they helped me.

I was fortunate that I had skills and expertise that they needed help with. But, I admit it was very difficult to ask for and take it. However, I can now say, it was the best thing I could have done for my business! So, if you need help reach out to people and if you don’t need help right now, still reach out; that’s how you get great joint venture partners and they may come in handy if you ever need help in the future as well. (Honestly, this is the best advice I could ever give anyone in business.)

In my business….I am working with two new Best-Seller Launch clients this week and both were referrals. In fact, much of my business is now referrals for coaching clients. So, how do you get referrals?  By getting great results for your clients and giving them amazing service.  But, you also have to let your clients know that you appreciate referrals and who your ideal clients are because they may not think about referring to you if you don’t let them know, and they may not know who to refer to you if you don’t tell them who you want to work with!

I’m also going to be participating in an upcoming Video Summit called Creating a Buzz with Social Media: 21 Money-Making Strategies for Social Media Newbies talking about, what else, ebooks! That should be a lot of fun!  And I’m participating in a collaboration book that you’ll definitely be hearing more about. Why am I telling you this? Because I didn’t ask for either of these opportunities, they sought me out.  It’s called attraction marketing. And the more you put yourself out there and do good work, the more people will seek you out. But, it doesn’t happen overnight! The key is perseverance! And never giving up! Luckily for me, I was just too damn stubborn to give up!

How to Build a Content Marketing Strategy From the Ground Up (Part 1)

Content marketing is now an essential part of your business marketing and a big contributor to your success for several reasons; it displays your expertise, it markets for you 24/7, and it answers questions and overcomes objections to                   doing business with you in advance-so it creates more trust, loyalty, and sales. But, content marketing can be overwhelming if you don’t have a plan, so here’s my easy-to-follow blueprint anyone can follow:

1. Do the research. If you don’t know what niche to pursue, do the research to figure out what is going to be profitable for you that will keep your interest. Also, make sure it solves a problem that your target market is experiencing. Check out the competition and find out how you are different, otherwise it will make you look like a second-rate version of your competitors…leaving you with the crumbs.  Find out what your market wants that it isn’t currently getting and provide it for them; that way you will always have people interested in what you have to offer.

Note: A great way to do this is to go to Amazon and read the negative reviews on books in your niche. If you already have a niche, you’ll still want to do the research. Figure out what your competition is offering and what you can offer that is different and, hopefully, better. Also figure out who is  your best target market, their interests, their biggest challenges, and the best way to approach your topic to connect with them.

2. Build your following in social media. First, figure out the habits of your market and be wherever they are. This is called ISYOT. I see you out there, which I learned when I first got started from Internet pioneer, Paul Colligan. When people see you everywhere, they will hire you over everyone else in your niche!  So, figure out who your market is and that will determine which social media platforms you should pursue. For instance, if your market is young men, You Tube might be the best place to start whereas if your market is moms, you might be better off on Pinterest. But, don’t try to master more than a couple of social-media sites at a time. You’ll get a better return if you master a couple at a time.

Tip #1. Focus on connecting with people who are your ideal customers, potential ideal JV partners, and top influencers-not just whomever shows up at your virtual doorstep!

Tip #2. Share information that is relevant to your audience and shows your expertise. “Like”, comment, and share other people’s content for great visibility and engagement.

3.  Start a newsletter and write at least one article each week. (Two is better.) But, keep it simple. It’s more important to get it out regularly than it is to provide so much information that it takes the whole week to produce! (I made that mistake when I first started and my newsletter still takes quite a bit of time to produce each week-but it’s much better than it was starting out. I talk from experience!)

4. Turn each article into a blog post and share it in social media. And, be sure to include a call to action at the end of each article. The main goal should be to get people onto your mailing list, so a free offer works best. (Your mailing list is the primary asset in your business, and how you will make most of your money! One of the biggest mistakes I see entrepreneurs make is waiting to start an email list. You’ll work a lot harder and make a lot less money without one!) 5. Record your blog post and put it on You Tube. Or, record a live post in Periscope (live streaming) and have it transcribed into a blog post if you’d rather talk than write; It works either way.

6. If your topic is business-oriented, post it on LinkedIn. Sharing articles is one of the easiest ways to get a lot of engagement quickly on LinkedIn. Engagement helps you discover who is interested in your topic and who is most likely to be a good client or partner for you.

Sharing content is the fastest way to become an authority and gain credibility in your market, so start sharing your content and you’ll attract your audience and build your business much faster!

Tech Tips

The new “Send Message” call-to-action button for local awareness ads in Facebook allow people to initiate private conversations with business pages from News-Feed ads, giving people a personal way to connect with businesses directly from ads.

When someone clicks on the “Send Message” button in an ad, the Facebook Messenger window opens for them to write and send messages to the business. Incoming messages to pages include an attachment that shows which ad prompted the person to reach out, and once someone initiates a message with the business, the business can reply and follow up as necessary.

Advertisers can start using the “Send Message” call-to-action button by creating a new local awareness ad and selecting “Send Message” in the “Call-to-Action” field. This is a powerful tool if you are running a business. Be sure to check it out!
