“The mind is the limit. As long as the mind can envision the fact that you can do something, you can do it, as long as you really believe 100 percent.

Happy “Ask A Stupid Question” Day! (Monday, September 28th)

It’s your day to speak up and ask all those questions you thought were stupid and you were afraid to ask!

(To ask a questions go to:  www.facebook.com/BookMarketingAuthorPros anytime, but I’ll create a thread on Monday specifically for Ask a Stupid Question Day!

Thoughts for the week: Confession time-I’ve never been great at planning. That’s one of the things I loved about the music business.  All I had to commit to was 3-4 minutes-the length of a song. Yes, sometimes there were deadlines when an artist was looking for a song, and it had to be submitted by a certain date, but it was rare. That’s very different than running a business. And this is something that has been very challenging for me.

One of the things I’ve learned over the years is whatever I am working on always takes longer than I think it’s going to take. I’ve also learned that there are many different business models and you have to choose one that works for you and that this can take a while to figure out. Also, it may change over time.  And what works for this guru or that guru may not work for you.

You have to roll with your own rhythms, passions, personality, and skills.  For instance, for me, I am happier being creative and spontaneous-not doing the same thing over and over. And that’s one of the reasons, I really like Periscope.  It works for me because I can be spontaneous with it. If I feel like it and I have time, I can hop on and live stream. I don’t have to have weeks to plan it. I don’t need JV partners. It just works for me.

You have to find what works for you. And if what you’re doing isn’t working for you, make a change. Don’t beat yourself up, just notice what is making you unhappy and change it.  As Jim Rohn said, “Change doesn’t happen by chance, it happens by change!” (Love that quote!)

I also know from experience that the more you plan in business, the more freedom you actually have and the better your business will run. It’s counter-intuitive, but that’s the way it is, and I have had resistance to doing it. But, I have decided to make a change thanks to Jim Rohn LOL! After deep reflection for Yom Kippur, and since it’s the New Year on the Jewish Calendar, I have decided to make a conscious effort to plan better this year, and  I’m excited about it.  I plan to ROCK it now until the end of the year. If you’d like to ROCK it with me, I want to invite you to join me in the Author’s Profit Incubator Mastermind. (See announcements for details).

In business news….. there is a lot of great stuff going on! I’m gearing up for eBook Marketing Mastery www.ebookmarketingmastery.com/emm-profitplan and working on catching up on all the loose ends (part of planning better!). I’m also planning to interview my friend and colleague, Rick Cooper, next week on Periscope.  Rick has been instrumental in getting me going on Periscope and I can’t wait to hear what he has to say!  I’m also scheduled to be a guest on an upcoming telesummit, I’ll be telling you more about and a collaboration book with my friend and colleague, Donna Kozik!

In personal news… the car got worked on yesterday, and it looks like I have wheels again YAY!  (BTW if you have car trouble PLEASE get multiple quotes. I got 3 quotes. My car repair was quoted as high as $2600 and it ended up costing me just $400!) Big thanks go Donna Kozik for sharing her mechanic with me!

That’s it for now…..

7 Ways to Use Periscope in Your Business to Sell  eBooks & Books!

1. Use periscope to share news about your ebook. It’s a great way to get the word out. Writing can take time, but if you talk it, you can do it very quickly. You can also reach people who might not read an excerpt or review.

2.  Share relevant news about your industry.  It gives you more credibility and expert status and makes you the go to person on your topic;  it sets you apart from your competition.

3. Connect with other writers in your genre and their followers by showing up regularly at their broadcasts, comment in a way that shows your expertise, ask intelligent questions, and share their broadcast in social media.

Note: Be sure to tune into specific broadcasts, turn on your push notification then mute everyone except the people you want to connect with. (Tip from the Social Media Examiner)

4. Take viewers behind the scenes of your life, business, or your book process. To connect with viewers on a personal level, let followers in behind the scenes to see what your life, business,, or book writing, publishing or marketing process is really like. You can engage with your audience by answering questions during the broadcast.

5. Engage your audience in the book process. Ask for their feedback on your title , chapter heading, or content that you’re working on.

6. Offer viewers an excerpt of your upcoming book or an advanced copy of your book in exchange for their names and email addresses.

7. Ask prospects to leave their email in the comments. It’s more work, but you can enter the addresses into your database manually;  and it removes the barrier to getting sign ups.

Note: Be sure to have a confirmation opt-in email sent to them to verify that they want to be on your list.

Video streaming is what’s hot and getting hotter. By 2017, 69% of all Internet Traffic will be video. So don’t wait! If you want to sell more books, start using Periscope now, building your audience, and your expert status.  You’ll be ahead of the curve and you could become a Periscope star!

Tech Tips

Periscope is HOT! But, should you be on it?

It really depends on if you enjoy the format and feel that it will enhance your marketing.

I like it because I hate planning and, as of right now, you can be pretty spontaneous on Periscope.

But, there are some things you need to know to get started.

1. To put in a title you have to tap on the screen (there’s a line) and then you can type in the title

Make sure to add keywords.

There is also a group called #tagtribes. If you add the tag, you’ll instantly get more followers

Mark Shaw is the originator so be sure to follow him.

2. When you first broadcast the picture will not be on you but away from you.

You have to double tap on the screen to turn it towards you. Some people want to show the scenery where they are so they don’t have to double tap.  Lindsay Wilson takes people on her daily walk for instance so the camera is not on her.

When I broadcast a lesson, I put a piece of white paper behind the camera so you can’t see the mess on my computer desk. I haven’t tried it out in public yet with scenery. I’m too much of a control freak to try that until I am more comfortable with the medium.

More tips to come as I experiment with it! Stay tuned!
