Happy Eat Your Vegetables Day!

I’m not one of those people who loves vegetables as a category of food. I’d much rather have any other food given the choice, but I’ve had to drastically change my eating habits over the years due to illness.

At one point, in the early 2,000′s, I became allergic to everything. I couldn’t eat anything without it turning toxic in my system, and I got down to 90 pounds from 120 (in a month); I was on my way out.

But, my husband refused to give up when the medical establishment didn’t have a clue.  He found Dr. Sherry Rogers. She was also a sufferer and what was wrong with me had a name, it was environmental illness. I had to start eating organic, get rid of all the clutter, change my diet drastically, stop using perfumes and heavy chemicals and basically clean up my act. I also had to have hydrogen peroxide drips. It was a terrible time.

But, I fought my way back. I was never 100% again, but I was well enough to start my online business, become a 5-time best-selling author, a two-time eLit award winner, help thousands of authors around the world achieve their goals while they help others, meet a lot of amazing people, and make hundreds of thousands of dollars online!

And while I can’t guarantee that if you eat your vegetables that you’ll have the same success that I have been fortunate enough to experience, I can guarantee that if you don’t eat your vegetables and take care of yourself, you won’t have the energy and stamina for the long run that you need to be a successful author/entrepreneur!

So, are you ready to eat your vegetables?

In business news…I’m really seeing how accountability is key in moving your business forward.  If what you love to do most make you lots of money, congratulations!  But, if you have to do things that you don’t enjoy doing so you can make more money to do the things you want to do, it can be difficult to stay on course. I know because I’m guilty myself.

When I really got honest with myself and saw how many programs I purchased that I had quit because there was no guidance and accountability I was actually shocked. I’ve always seen myself as an action taker. But, what I realized was that I took action only on the things I WANTED to do, that I felt were DOABLE and that I was comfortable doing. But, sometimes, I needed help and I didn’t always get it. I convinced myself I could do it on my own or I decided it was too expensive to get help, when it fact it was way more expensive not to! I know that now. So, I take fewer programs, but I go all in or I don’t do it, and I want to encourage you to do the same!

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m taking this advanced LinkedIn training and our class met on Thursday.  TR, the instructor, calls on us each week and asks if we did certain tasks, and sometimes, he just tells us, from assignments turned in, who did it and who didn’t; and I can tell you, it’s pretty uncomfortable when you have to fess up, and you haven’t done your homework!

Now one of the things we had to do was set up a CRM in LinkedIn so we could keep track of who we had tagged and contacted (I’ll be you didn’t know you could do that in LinkedIn, but you can!); it was a one-time task and I wasn’t looking forward to it.  But, I knew I had to do it. So, before class, I set it up.  It wasn’t half as difficult as I thought it was going to be, and I am so relieved that it’s done because,now, I can move forward and start contacting people in LinkedIn without creating a big disorganized mess for myself. YAY!

I also know that if I hadn’t been in the class, it probably wouldn’t have gotten done and I would have dropped the ball and moved on to something else (gotten distracted by something that looked easier or more exciting). But, that’s not what’s good for my business right now. So, I’m grateful to be in this training. It also shows me how powerful the Author’s Profit Incubator Mastermind can be for YOUR  business. You can get support & accountability too (as well as inspiration, leverage, knowledge, and more!)! It’s an awesome group of women (No men this time!)

After that, it’s too late and you’ll miss out. I KNOW this can really move your business forward so that’s why I am mentioning it here.

I also realize there is a bit of  desire for instant gratification that can creep in and sabotage you as well. It’s much more fun to do things where you see instant results that to plod along day after day feeling like you’re not making progress. Of course you are, but sometimes, you just don’t feel it, or sometimes, you don’t even realize the opportunity at your fingertips that you’ve created for yourself!

For instance, I love writing special reports, because I can knock out high-value ones very quickly. For me, it’s fun. But, I hate making videos. First of all, my hair has to look good, I have to get dressed, I have to put on my make up, and then I have to think about what I’m going to say, make sure I’m looking into the camera and not the screen, and “be myself”! Yikes! It’s getting easier….I’ll explain under “Specials” But, still given the choice, I’d rather write a report. However, here’s the rub, even to give away a report, I have to make a video if I want to maximize my downloads! And, that is why I’m convinced that so many people don’t succeed. They don’t want to do what they don’t want to do! I get it! But, if you want to be successful you have to or you have to outsource it-one of the two.

And what I mean by “you don’t always realize the opportunities”, take Facebook for example. I’ve been very active for years! I have a lot of very strong connections there. But, I wasn’t reaching out and taking the next step until I took this LinkedIn program and realized just how powerful relationships marketing is!  Then, I saw how it could work in Goodreads too, and I got excited about that so I put together a two-part training on it through eBook Empire Builders that is now in progress. You have to do what you love and find the easiest ways possible to do the things that you don’t love. But,one thing I know for sure, when you work with a coach or mentor, who’s good, they are going to give you the shortcuts! So, I highly suggest doing what I’m doing. Get help! Hopefully, with me, but get help!

In other news…there is always something to work on when you are in business (if not several things!). So, I am now working on getting my banner up in LinkedIn.  And I was excited to discover medals for Grammy nominees online, but they didn’t have the one for the year that I got the nomination, so now I’m trying to get in touch with them to get permission to use one we made up. It’s always something! LOL!

7 Ways to Build Your Tribe and Sell More Books With Goodreads!

Goodreads is for book lovers: it’s all about engagement centered around books. Readers go there to find good books to read and authors go there to find readers and  promote books.  The way to succeed on Goodreads is to get involved because it is a social-media site, and it’s all about building relationships. It’s just done around books whereas other sites have a different focus.

Here are 7 ways to use Goodreads to build your platform, get noticed, increase your readership, and your improve your sales!

1. Give away your ebook on Goodreads. Giving books away is a great way to get extra exposure. Goodreads didn’t used to allow you to give away ebooks, only books. But then, it was bought by Amazon and that was a game changer!  Now, you can run promotions on Amazon and Goodreads simultaneously for a one-two punch!

2. Read & rate other peoples books & free ebooks. The more books you read and rate, the more you will be seen. The best reviews will show up on the top 50 review list and get even more exposure!

4.Use Goodreads to collect reviews of  your ebook before it launches. Some people give away ebooks before they are widely available in order to get reviews before launching, this can be very helpful for selling books if the reviews are good, and helping the author decide if changes need to be made before publication if necessary. It’s easier to give away ebooks than books because they are truly free, unlike “free” books where you have to pay for shipping.

5. List your book in Listopia to get more visibility. Goodreads allows you to create lists of books around a topic.  When you create a list of books, you can add yours. Be sure to do this as it’s another way to get your book seen.

6. Ask fans to review your book. The more reviews you get on Goodreads, the more visibility you get, so be sure to ask fans for reviews whenever possible.

7. Request “Librarian status”. Librarian status allows you to go in and make changes to books when their information is wrong, and you want to be able to change the information on your books as quickly as possible when needed. Getting librarian status allows you to do this. It’s important because if your information is wrong, people may not be able to find your book(s).

Goodreads is a great place to connect with your potential audience and build a community, but it is much overlooked by many authors.  Doesn’t it make more sense to go where people who love to read are hanging out if you want to sell books and get to know them?  Goodreads is much more personal than Amazon so it’s easier to build real relationships and find evangelists and influencers who are crucial to your success online. So be sure to get social and discover how to use Goodreads in your business!

Tech Tip

If you’re using Google Hangouts, you might encounter a situation where the sound is scratchy. What you want to do is restart your computer, change the plug in for your microphone, and test it before you do a long video. Otherwise, you could just be wasting your time.

Another site people are touting is Zoom.us.  Many find it a lot easier to use but you can only use it for meetings for free. If you want to do webinars with it you’ll have to pay for it.

But, it is another option.

Another option is Instant Teleseminar. That’s what I use. I like easy-to-use solutions so it’s worth it to me to pay for this service.  It makes webinars and gives you the iframes to use on your site. It also gives you an instant replay line, plus participants can download the mp3 of the training as well. You can also send people to an offer straight from the events page. So even if you don’t have a website, you can offer affiliate products and start making money. And, they have multiple lines available so I’ve never not been able to get on a call-which I can’t say for Free Conferencing.
