Happy Fun at Work Day!, Thursday, January 28th!

Fun at work day is all about enjoying yourself. But isn’t that what being your own boss should be like everyday? That would be nice, but let’s face it, running your own business can be challenging.

Hopefully, you are meeting those challenges and having fun in your work.

But, if not, why not take this day, to REALLY enjoy work.  Only do the things that you love doing in your business this one day.  And then, figure out how you can do more of it and less or everything else on a regular basis!

And speaking of challenges, this week has been a bit challenging for me! We launched the Rockin’ in 2015 $10 Sale on the 12th, but it had it’s challenges. We didn’t have the right technology to do what we wanted to do and there were some technical glitches on some of the browsers. So, we had to strategize on our feet, so to speak, and we worked it out, but it had a rocky start! It’s working like a charm now though. I’ve also been working on getting my podcast together and I had an issue with the artist I hired on Fiverr.com.  I told him the feel I wanted, I gave examples, and I worked with him, but he just didn’t get it. What he gave me was so far out of the ballpark it was ridiculous. I had to ask for my money back, which I hated to do since he tried to work with me. But it’s not about trying, it’s about delivering! And he had marked it as “done” when it wasn’t, so then, when I asked for my money back, he said it was too late.  I had to contact Fiverr and tell them what had happened and they immediately refunded my money.

In the past, I would have let it slide and just lose my money, but he charged me quite a bit more than $5 and I still needed to get it done. Plus, because I had given him specific direction which he didn’t follow, I felt that it was right to ask for my money back. But that doesn’t mean it was easy. In fact, I find it difficult, at times, to stand  up for myself and this was one of those times. So if you have this problem asking for refunds or doing what is in your best interest, believe me you aren’t alone!

There have also been some amazing things going on behind the scenes. I reached out to a JV broker recently, and he hooked me up with an amazing partner. We now have a huge project in the works-very exciting-but too soon to spill the beans! So stay tuned!  The important thing I want to say about this is that it would never have happened if I hadn’t ASKED!  So never be afraid to ask. The worst that will happen is nothing! And then you move on to the next opportunity! The key is to just keep moving and not let the “no’s” get you down!

Also, I did an interview for Mike Rafati of Incredible Talks on creating a Profitable Kindle Best-Seller that will air this Wednesday, 9 am PST. Be sure to catch it! (Details are in Events and Trainings).

In personal news, I got a cold right before New Years and I’ve been trying to push through but I finally had to take some time off and rest which is why the newsletter is coming out on Monday instead of Friday.

How to Promote on Kindle For More Credibility, Visibility, & Profits Using Countdown Deals! (Part 1)

What is a Countdown Deal?

A countdown deal is where you offer your ebook at a reduced rate over a period of time. It can last from 1 hour to 7 days. And, it is called a Countdown deal because it’s on a timer. You can have a total of 5 incremental prices during your promotion and each one goes on for a specific amount of time.

Why do a Countdown Deal?

A Countdown Deal gives you the opportunity to reduce the price of your ebook for a limited time to create urgency and increase visibility and  sales. Amazon even has a Countdown deals page where your book will be listed.  Plus, Amazon allows you to keep the 70% royalty rate all the way down to 99 cents!

When to do a Countdown Deal?

If you are a new author and you don’t have a following, I suggest starting with a KDP FREE launch because it will create buzz, give you credibility, get you more reviews (after the initial 4-6 you will need to get started) and there are a lot of announcement sites that will advertise it for no cost.  Plus, you can make money on the back-end if you do it right. Then, once you have done a KDP launch, you might consider doing Countdown Deals for the same book.

The reason I suggest this is that it’s harder to get people to buy a Countdown deal than it is to a free offer simply because so many sites support free launches and more people will take advantage of a free offer than a paying one. It’s also easier to make money from a free offer than from a Countdown deal.  But, if you are looking to make money strictly from your ebooks, it is definitely worth considering.

However, you MUST be willing to market to make a Countdown Deal work. (It takes a lot more work than a KDP launch the way we do it.)

Doing a KDP launch first will not only give you credibility and buzz, but it will give you time to make connections with joint-venture partners and make money to support your countdown deals. (Many of the sites that allow you to advertise these deals are not free.) It will also give you time to work on your social-media reach so you attract more buyers that way as well.

“FREE” Graphics Site: I am always looking for graphics for my newsletters and blog posts and a lot of the sites that say they are free are not really free-they just give you a free trial.  But, the one I found today is free, however they ask for donations.  You aren’t obligated to give one, but I am more than happy to pay $1.00 for a graphic without having to sign up for anything or spend an arm or a leg to get what I need. You Tube: Video is a great way to spread the word about your books, products, and services. And the best way to display it, so it is easy for people to navigate,  is to cut it up into sections. You can have a maximum of 10 sections on a channel.

To add a section:

To create a section, follow these steps:

  1. Enable the Browse view on your channel if it is not already enabled (For instructions on how to enable  your Browse view

  2. Click the Add a section button located towards the bottom of your channel home tab
  3. In the “Content” drop down you can select the type of content you want to appear in your section
  4. In the “Layout” drop down you can choose to have the section displayed as a horizontal row or a vertical list
