Introduction:

When I got online, I was naïve enough and confident enough to think that I could succeed and so I did….to a point. But, as I came up against certain challenges and what I perceived as failures, I found myself becoming frustrated and scared. Afraid to take risks like the ones that got me to a 6-figure income in the first place because some didn’t pan out and they cost me money and shook my confidence. And others made me look bad when my JV partners didn’t reap the benefits I had promised based on past performance.

In fact, I’ve suffered from almost every one of these fears at one time or another and I’m still in the game. So, I wanted to share my thoughts with you in this 8-part series, so you can keep moving forward in your business in spite of your fears.

Fear #3. I don’t have enough information or, the right information, and I don’t know how to get it

There is so much information out there these days that it’s easy to get overwhelmed and it’s hard to know what information you really need and what to pass on. On top of that, any expert worth his or her salt, has done what they are offering so it usually works, and it all sounds really good-especially if they are good at marketing themselves. And, unfortunately, some are great at marketing shoddy products too!

So, you have to determine what is the right information for YOU. To do that, you have to look at what your goals are, how you want to spend your time, what you’re passionate about, and what skills you possess. And, pick a business model that is easy for you to follow and is going to get your where you want to go with an expert who knows how to do it, has done it themselves, and/or has done it for their clients.

To find this out, read their websites and testimonials and verify them if you aren’t sure; listen to their free calls. Schedule a free consultation with them if they offer it. Talk to other people who’ve studied with them, and see what people say about them in social media.

Will every single person write a glowing review of the expert that peaks your interest? No, because it’s not one size fits all. The perfect coach for one person may be a terrible choice for another one. But, you have to do your homework, follow your instincts, and make sure they are teaching what you want to learn for the lifestyle you want.

Your potential coach or mentor also has to present the material in a modality that will work for you, so you have to decide how you like to learn and if they offer what you need.

Do you like Audio? Video? Transcripts? Live calls? Go-at-your-own-pace? Do you want accountability? A community to bounce ideas off of? Do you like weekly lessons or an intensive? Etc.

And do you feel like you and the expert are a good fit?

Believe me when I say, I’m telling you this from experience. When I got started, I didn’t even know what a business model was! I just jumped in because I thought it was exciting and I love to learn. So, when I got on the Internet in 2004, I was like a kid in a candy store. There were so many options!

I spent hours on free teleseminars soaking it all in, buying products, and occasionally getting burned on some of what I bought. But, when I started to write my first ebook, I ran into a brick wall.

I was trying to learn how to write from an ebook and it wasn’t working for me. I wanted an ebook coach, but there weren’t any. So, I hired a regular coach-not a pleasant experience. He didn’t have a system to follow, so I had to make every mistake first, THEN he’d show me how to fix it; I was paying by the month, and it was adding up FAST!.

So, I decided there had to be a better way, and I was going to find it or, create it. Well, as it turned out, I couldn’t find it, so I had to create it. Then, my coach at the time said that it was time for me to start teaching what I knew. I was stunned. First of all, I didn’t think I knew all that much, and secondly, I didn’t feel like I knew anywhere near enough to teach!

But, he said that I only had to stay one step ahead of the people I was teaching and that I knew plenty, so I started teaching (BTW, you can too!)

I gave away an ebook- my second one-which I wrote in less than 72 hours, I did a two-part free teleseminar series on ebook writing and marketing and sold the transcripts for $9.97 and 60% of the people bought it. So, I figured there was a market for it.

(Note: This model still works today!)

Now, I had been taught a teleseminar model for making money so that’s how I sold people into my first workshops. Sure, I heard about automating, systematizing, and outsourcing, and everyone was talking about it but, nobody was actually teaching it.

They were teaching what they knew and getting me to pay them while promising things that were never going to happen with that model- like how I’d be laying on a beach making money 24/7… NOT! In fact, I quickly found out that with teleseminars, I HAD to be present.

And there was no system, so I was always wondering-what do I create next? And how does this fit in with what I already have? Needless to say, I was working hard, I had NO passive income, and after several years of doing this, I felt burned out and stuck.

Mind you, I was making a 6-figure income but, the longer I did it the more frustrated I got because I couldn’t see a way out. Then, it occurred to me that this was the WRONG information and business model for me.

I got on the Internet to be an author and fell into coaching. which I took to like a fish to water but…..I wanted to be able to hand-pick the people I wanted to work with. And to make matters worse, in 5 years, I had only written 3 ebooks! So, I started looking for a new business model but, couldn’t find was I was looking for.

I’d buy programs that sounded great but, when you got into them they were just too hard; I never finished. Or, they didn’t explain things well, and without any coaching, I couldn’t figure them out so I quit. I wasted my time and thousands of dollars, not to mention all the stress it caused.

But, I didn’t give up because when I asked myself, what I wanted to do, I kept getting the same answer: I wanted to do what I was doing, but not the way I was doing it. I couldn’t afford to spend any more money on coaching at that point, and I wasn’t convinced that anyone would have the answer I was looking for anyway after working with so many coaches and spending so many thousands of dollars already without coming up with one!

So, I kept watching what other experts were doing and going on calls and eventually through trial and error, lots of sleepless nights and tears, and many moments where I was ready to quit, It dawned on me what I needed, and I was able to create a new system that works like a dream for author/entrepreneurs! I know it’s a perfect fit for an author wanting to build a publishing and online business without stress and overwhelm because I built it for myself, and my first group of students who have gone through the program are loving it!

So, bottom line, you have to know what it is you want to achieve, and seek out the right coach with the right business model for you who has the right information for YOU. And, if all else fails, create your own!

But, if you’re an author/entrepreneur who would rather spend your time writing and doing what you love, and you’re looking for the perfect easy-to-follow system so you don’t have to spend years dealing with stress and overwhelm and you’re ready to move forward, I can help, so let’s talk!
