How to Deal With Negative Reviews on Amazon Kindle Books!

March 7th, 2015

BalanceBe sure to look at your Kindle reviews on a regular basis because you never know when someone is going to leave a review and there is always the possibility that it won’t be a good one! When that happens you want to be ready with a plan of action.

This isn’t always easy when you are hot under the collar, so first, take a breathe and don’t send anything out when you are angry. You have plenty of time! Amazon gives you a full 60 days to try and get it removed,

But, having said that,  if you aren’t watching for negative reviews, you could miss your window of opportunity! So you do need to pay attention.

When you see one, you’ll want to access whether it falls in one of these categories or no.  If it does, Amazon will remove it.

1. It’s obscene, profane, or spiteful.

2. It contains personal information. Amazon prohibits phone numbers, email addresses, or URLS.

3. It includes pricing information, alternative shipping, or purchasing methods.

4. It’s a product review (if it’s only partially a product review, they will let it stand.)

5. The entire review is on customer service.

6. They will remove reviews by other authors.

7.  It includes inaccurate information or information has nothing to do with the book

8. People impersonating other people

9.  Anything with a political bias

10. Anything that is an advertisement for the reviewer

You can request to have a review removed at: community-help@amazon.com

If the review does not fall into one of these categories, you’ll want to first, contact the reviewer. You can offer a refund and/or a reason as to why it wasn’t a fair review and see how they respond. Then, ask them to remove it. But, you can’t pressure them to remove it, that is against Amazon’s rules.

If they won’t remove it, then respond to the review itself in Kindle. Or, if there are extenuating circumstances contact Amazon and see if they will still remove it. (Extenuating circumstances might be something like you didn’t see the review because it was so far down the list that it was hidden, or it actually met one of the criteria above, but you didn’t realize it until now for some reason.)

If that isn’t feasible. and you plan to reply to the review, be professional and don’t get defensive. And, before you make your remarks public, write them all down and run them by someone you trust who isn’t going to get emotional about it.

You can also write it, put it away, and come back to it later. But, make sure it’s appropriate before publishing it. You don’t want to have a public meltdown as it could go viral.

So, stay alert and check your reviews at least every two weeks. This will give you enough time to deal with whatever situations come up. And just know that it may be a blessing in disguise to make your book better, or it may just be sour grapes.

If it needs work, fix it, if it’s sour grapes learn to just let it go and know that it’s  their problem not yours.

How Writing an eBooks Led to a #1 Best-Seller, Insane Traffic, Twitter Madness & More!

February 17th, 2015

gerriGerri Chambers had no idea how much her life was about to change when she decided to register for my 3 Days to eBook Cash Workshop.  She didn’t even want to be an author. She wanted to be an entrepreneur.

But, she saw the value in writing an ebook to kick start her business.  What she didn’t know was that she would become a #1 Best-seller TWICE, in a very short mount of time and not just start a business, but start a movement!

But, I’m getting ahead of myself.

Gerri wrote her ebook in the 3 Days to eBook Cash Workshop,  but she was struggling to find the right title, so we worked on it together after the workshop (you get additional help after the workshop at the Platinum or Platinum Plus level and she took the Platinum Plus), and I came up with the concept of Bossy! I happened to see a news article with the owner of a successful clothing business, and it was called “Boss Gal”,  or something like that,  and that’s where I got the idea.

Gerri loved it so since the title was settled, she went to work on her subtitle and eventually came up with: 8 Steps to Take you from Paycheck to Prosperity(tm) with a Home-Based Business after looking at the research and who she wanted to reach.

And the timing couldn’t have been more perfect;  there was some noise in social media about the negative connotation of the word “Bossy” and Amy Poehler came out and said this: “I love Bossy women, I could be around them all day. To me, bossy is not a pejorative term, at all. It means, somebody’s passionate, and engaged, and ambitious, and doesn’t mind leading.” and we started jumping up and down because that was the exact idea behind Bossy!

Once it was finished, I coached Gerri to #1 on the Best-Seller list and she chose a one-day promotion and got over 500 downloads. Then, she decided to do it again on her own and hit #1 AGAIN with over 500 downloads again!

And then something even m ore amazing happened, she got noticed. An online publicist saw the tweets for her book and loved it so much that he offered to work with her. And in just 6 weeks, she has built her following to 392K twitter followers, and since launching her site she’s been averaging over 400 visitors a day and has started Team Bossy Gals-a movement to empower women all over the world to be leaders, to be BOSSY! The woman is on FIRE!

And it all started with an ebook!

The 7 Biggest Mistakes Authors Make With a KDP Launch! (And How to Avoid Them)!

February 11th, 2015

ebookcomputer1.  Not doing the research to optimize your title and Kindle sales page. If you want to get found in Kindle, both during your promotion and after, you need to optimize your title as well as Kindle parameters. You also need optimize  to differentiate your ebook from the other ones in your category.

For instance, there are several books about how to make money writing, but my ebook is the only one (as of this printing) on making money writing quick non-fiction ebooks (www.ebookthis.com

3. Going into Kindle at the last minute and making changes when your launch is set to run. Launches don’t always go live right at midnight, so be patient. If you panic and go back into Kindle, it will set your lanch back even longer because when you make changes, Amazon sends it back into draft mode, and then, it has to be approved all over again.

4. Not telling people the right time that your ebook is going to be free. Promotions generally run from midnight Pacific time, to 11:59 Pacific time, where Amazon is located, so be sure to put the Pacific time zone in your communications with joint-venture partners and potential buyers. When people in another time zone don’t know that it’s Pacific time, they will go looking for it before it’s live and they won’t be able to find it.  This will cause frustration and the loss of valuable downloads, which can affect your ability to rank as a best-seller.

5. Ignoring the research. Not putting your ebook in the right categories or pricing it correctly. I’ve walked authors through the research and showed them which categories are best, the most powerful keywords, and best pricing, and then watched them ignore my advice and not get the results they wanted. My system works but you have to follow it!

6. Wanting to keep your ebook free once the promotion is over instead of moving on to the paid phase, or switching it to .99 There are different price-reduction strategies and which one you should use depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you simply reduce the price to .99 you will get a 35% royalty. But, if you do it as a Countdown Deal, you will continue to receive the 70% royalty. However, there are certain rules that must be followed with a Countdown promotion in order to get it.  (If you missed it, you can learn more in my last two newsletters where I did a two-parter on the subject of Countdown Deals at: http://tinyurl.com/countdownwow for part 1 andhttp://tinyurl.com/countdownprofits for part 2).

7. Not taking advantage of all the promotional tools available to you during a launch. There are many free announcement sites where you can list your launch and this is pretty much mandatory for a successful launch unless you have a huge number of influential joint-venture partners on your team-and even then, why would you pass up all this free promotion? Having said that, there are also many things you can do to further enhance your launch. These include: enlisting joint-venture partners, doing a press release, creating videos, doing a Google Hangout, and lining up guest blog posts, to name a few.  The possibilities are endless!

KDP launches are a great way to create buzz about your ebook, grow you subscriber list, and make sales but you have to know what you are doing.  Avoid these 7 mistakes  and you’ll have a much smoother launch! How to Use Kindle Countdown Deals To Market Your eBooks! (Part 2)

February 3rd, 2015

Hand with a stopwatch.(Part 2)

Why do a Countdown Promotion in Kindle?

A Countdown promotion gives potential buyers a reason to take action NOW! It allows you to discount the price of your ebook and still get a 70% royalty all the way down to 99 cents! And the regular price will show next to the discounted price on your Kindle sales page.

In addition, Amazon has a dedicated webpage for Kindle Countdown Deals where readers go to find great deals.

What are the rules for a Countdown Promotion in Kindle?

1. Your ebook must be in KDP Select. (That means it’s exclusive to Kindle for a 90-day period and cannot be sold anywhere else.)
Note: It only works at this time in the U.S. and the U.K.

2. The regular price of your ebook must be between $2.99-$24.99 in the U.S. and 1.93-14.99 pounds U.K. including VAT and you can schedule one in each of the two marketplaces.

3. Your ebook must have been enrolled in KDP Select for at least 30 days (at the regular price). And it cannot be changes for 14 days after the promotion as well.

4. You must be willing to discount your ebook at least $1.00 off the regular price. But just know that the more you discount it, the more incentive there will be for potential customers to buy it during the promotion. Also note that you can choose the number of price increments you want to include in the promotion (up to 5)

5. You must pick a time frame for your promotion and it can be anywhere from one hour to  7 days.

6. The latest end time for your deal must be 14 days before your KDP Select period ends and you cannot do a Countdown deal in the same 90-day period as a KDP free promotion. However, if you choose another consecutive 90-day period after the present one, then  you may end your Countdown promotion on the last day of your current KDP Select period.

When Can I Schedule a Countdown Promotion?

You can schedule it to start 24 hours from the time that you create it rounded out to the next full day in the Bookshelf area of your dashboard at www.kdp.amazon.com

If you would like to do a best-seller launch for Valentine’s Day or President’s Day, I have one slot open for each, but time is running out! Send an email to info@theebookcoach.com subject line:”best-seller launch” with your name, phone number, time zone, and best time to reach you so we can discuss the launch, what it entails, and how to get started so you can take advantage of the upcoming holidays!

How to Use Kindle Countdown Deals To Market Your eBooks! (Part 1)

January 28th, 2015

(Part 1)

What is a Countdown Deal? A countdown deal is where you offer your ebook at a reduced rate over a period of time. It can last from 1 hour to 7 days. And, it is called a Countdown deal because it’s on a timer. You can have a total of 5 incremental prices during your promotion and each one goes on for a specific amount of time.

Why do a Countdown Deal? A Countdown Deal gives you the opportunity to reduce the price of your ebook for a limited time to create urgency and increase visibility and  sales. Amazon even has a Countdown deals page where your book will be listed.  Plus, Amazon allows you to keep the 70% royalty rate all the way down to 99 cents!

When to do a Countdown Deal? If you are a new author and you don’t have a following, I suggest starting with a KDP FREE launch because it will create buzz, give you credibility, get you more reviews (after the initial 4-6 you will need to get started) and there are a lot of announcement sites that will advertise it for no cost.

Plus, you can make money on the back-end if you do it right. Then, once you have done a KDP launch, you might consider doing Countdown Deals for the same book. The reason I suggest this is that it’s harder to get people to buy a Countdown deal than it is to a free offer simply because so many sites support free launches and more people will take advantage of a free offer than a paying one. It’s also easier to make money from a free offer than from a Countdown deal.

But, if you are looking to make money strictly from your ebooks, it is definitely worth considering. However, you MUST be willing to market to make a Countdown Deal work. (It takes a lot more work than a KDP launch the way we do it.)

Doing a KDP launch first will not only give you credibility and buzz, but it will give you time to make connections with joint-venture partners and make money to support your countdown deals. (Many of the sites that allow you to advertise these deals are not free.) It will also give you time to work on your social-media reach so you attract more buyers that way as well. In next week’s issue, we’ll discuss the rules of a Countdown Deal.

7 Tips to PLAY BIG in 2015!

December 25th, 2014

Whew! I can feel the end of the year coming right up.http://www.dreamstime.com/royalty-free-stock-images-play-big-message-illustration-design-over-white-background-image38303389

Making it through each year is like running a marathon.

There is so much to do..

And yet, there is MORE!

You can do more.

You can be more.

You can accomplish more.

It’s time to PLAY BIG!

Here are 7 Tips to Play Big:

1) Beliefs

What do you believe is possible for you?

Your mindset will often determine your results.

If you don’t believe in yourself, you will be fighting against
yourself every day.

To play bigger, you need a bigger vision for yourself and your life.

2) Expectations, Intentions, and Goals

Live an intentional life.

Don’t wander around aimlessly.

Instead, set big goals that will drive you forward.

Norman Vincent Peale said,

“Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”

That’s a powerful message.

If you set small goals, you will achieve small results.

But if you set big goals, it will require you to stretch and in the
process you will achieve bigger results.

3) Reach more people

One of the areas that I see people struggle is that they are just not
reaching many people.

When you break your goals down and clearly understand what you
want, it will become clear that you need to be reaching and having
an impact on more people.

Unfortunately, many business owners are invisible to their intended
audience.

And that is NOT a good thing.

4) Do something amazing

Do you impress yourself?

When you step up and play big,
you will impress yourself.

You need to feel good about yourself to have a positive impact on the
world.

Wouldn’t you agree?

So, decide on something you can do that will be amazing and inspiring.

When you play big, people will respond to you in a different way.

You will attract people to you like a magnet.

5) Add more value

How much value do you add to other people?

How much do you help others?

What impact do you have on  other people?

Are you:
-Motivating people
-Inspiring people
-Sharing useful tips
-Helping them solve a business problem
-Helping them improve their life
-Helping them to have better relationships

If you want to become more in your life, then look for ways
to add more value.

And here’s a tip…

You are limited when helping people by just offering your products
and services.

Instead, think of your audience.

Think of your customers, clients, prospects and others in your
community.

What can you do to help them?

Think big picture.

Sometimes, finding a new way to add value can inspire you in
the process.

And that can make all the difference in the world!

6) Success Habits

What are your habits?

What do you do each day?

And how do you do it?

One of the ways you can play bigger is by focusing on activities daily
that will move you forward.

Identify new habits you can establish that will produce results.

There is a power in repetition.

There is a power in routine.

7) Get Help

Do you ever feel overwhelmed?

It might be because you are working too much.

People who set goals often struggle because they try to do everything
themselves.

In order to accomplish more and not drive yourself crazy, you need to
let go.

You need to hand off tasks.

You need to delegate.

Find someone who can help you.

Find someone who is gifted in an area where you struggle.

Delegate the project or task to them.

This is freeing.

This is liberating.

You will feel like there is a weight lifted off your shoulders.

Just do it.

Don’t overthink it!

Make it happen.

PLAY BIG!

Writing Amazon Reviews and Why You Should!

November 27th, 2014

Why you should write Amazon reviews:ebookcomputer

You should write Amazon book reviews because you need reviews and what goes around comes around.

Without reviews, many of the announcement sites won’t list your ebook and if you are a newbie, or doing a launch in a hurry, you’ll need them to get the word out.

You must have 4-6 reviews and they must be a 4 or 5 star to get listed. It can also lead to other opportunities.  It could lead you to become one of the top Amazon Reviewers that people seek out and it can lead to other opportunities either directly from being a reviewer or from something you mention in a review.

It’s also good karma; write reviews for people and people will write reviews for you! (Pay it forward.)

How to write your reviews:

Why you liked it. Talk about why you liked the ebook or book as well as whether you liked it or not. You may also talk about related books and how they compare with this one. Personally, I never leave a review that is less than a 4 if it’s someone I know-especially if I have a working relationship with them. If it doesn’t warrant a 4 or 5, I just won’t leave one.

Be specific: Explain specific features of the book that you liked.  For video reviews, Amazon recommends that you write a brief introduction.

Suggested Length: According to Amazon, the ideal length of a review is 75 to 500 words. 10-minutes is the limit on video reviews, but  to 5 minutes is the optimum length to keep your audience interested in the video.

Be sincere: Amazon wants you to give your honest opinion about each book  you review whether it is positive or negative.  Again, I would use good judgement here. Remember, this is a public forum.  Also,  realize that Amazon’s goal is to help customers make buying decisions,  but people can have ulterior motives for leaving bad reviews including jealousy, ego, and even hatred.

Full disclosure: Amazon requests that if you receive a product free of charge that you disclose it.  Reviews from the Amazon Vine™ program are already labeled, so additional disclosure is not necessary. (The Vine program gives vendor members access to free products to review.) So, tell the truth, write from the heart, and support your fellow authors who’s work you believe in and other’s will do the same for you!

How to get your first 4-6 Glowing Kindle Reviews!

October 31st, 2014

ebookcomputerBefore you can do a KDP launch in Kindle, you must have four to six 5 and/or 4 star reviews.

Otherwise, some of the announcement sites for KDP launches won’t share your promotion with their audience.  You’ll also want them for more sales. So assuming you’ve written a great ebook, there are several ways to get them:

  1. Use Amazon Reviewers
  2. Ask colleagues and joint venture partners
  3. Ask your best customers
  4. Ask your subscribers
  5. Ask your followers in social media

Amazon reviews are the top reviewers in Amazon. They are known for writing unbiased and well-written reviews that can help you make sales and gain loyal customers.  Amazon reviewer’s reviews are generally the top ones and it will say so on the review, so people know it’s a review they can trust.

You’ll have to send 100-200 queries generally to get 20 or 30 reviews. So, if you want Amazon Reviewer reviews from the get go, you’ll want to send to send out promotional copies, preferably, before your book is finished. (You can do this by getting a draft of your book into Amazon for pre-orders.)

You can also ask colleagues for reviews of your book.  I find that the best ones to ask are those people who are going to help you promote your KDP launch because they would not agree to help you if they didn’t believe in your project so they will generally write good reviews! (This is a good reason to use JV’s for your promotion!)

Next, I would ask your best customers- if you have them.  Again, these are people who love what you do and want to support you, so they will generally write good reviews as well.

After that, I would ask subscribers and followers in social media. The reason I put these at the bottom of the list is because you don’t necessarily have a close relationship with these people and so you are more apt to get some negative reviews from this list.

The truth is that some people have a big ego and like to think they know more than you, others just don’t want to see you succeed because they are jealous, so they relish writing negative reviews and bring you down.  And I have found that these generally come from your subscriber list or followers who don’t have a close relationship with you and aren’t your loyal customers.

How you get reviews is up to you, but if you want to stack the deck in your favor, go to your joint-venture partners and best customers first.  Once your book is live and you do your launch anyone can write a review.  But, to get you started you want the best reviews you can get and this is the best way to get them.

5 Things You Must Do Before Going Live or Launching on Kindle!

October 25th, 2014

depositphotos_8542218-Books-fly-into-your-tablet-3D1.  Find the best keywords and phrases for your book title and categories in Kindle.
Your book won’t get found in Kindle or any other search engine if you don’t have the best title. You also need to know this before you can figure out what categories to choose for your book in Kindle. And if you don’t have this information, no one will be able to download it or buy it! Once you’ve got your keywords and phrases, you can figure out how you want to approach your topic and create a best-seller title!

2. Optimize your Kindle page.
Once you’ve written your ebook, you have two choices.  You can format your ebook, and then upload it when it’s ready. Or, you can
send Amazon a rough copy (still needing proofing etc.). Once they approve it, they will publish a Kindle page, so you can take pre-orders. But, your buyers won’t actually get
the book until you upload the final one and it goes live.

3. Upload your eBook to Kindle
When you upload your book to Kindle, they will ask you a series of questions and you will have to fill in the blanks.
Your title, name, etc. One of the questions is whether you want to include an ISBN number; know that you don’t need this for an ebook.
They will also ask if you want to use DRM.  This protects your ebook from theft so I recommend you use it.

But the most important question is whether you want to put your book in KDP or not.  If you decide to put it in KDP, you will have to
give Kindle an exclusive for 90 days. (i.e. you can’t sell it anywhere else during that time.) But, putting it in KDP allows you to
receive a 70% royalty on all books over $2.99.  (You can also receive a 70% royalty on ebook under $2.99 when you do a Countdown
promotion which will discuss further in a minute.)

Make sure you check your cover as early as possible. I was shocked the first time I uploaded on and it was a blurry mess! It took
weeks to sort it out and it help up publishing my ebook! Very frustrating.

4. Format and Test your eBook

There are several formats that Kindle accepts. The best are mobi and epub. I use mobi.

But, I don’t recommend that you format you own ebooks. It’s a time-consuming technical skill and you’re better off paying someone and spend those hours promoting yourself and your business or coaching clients! We can do it for you at www.ebookthis.com  Or, if you have a good eye, you can work with someone on www.fiverr.com. But be forwarned, I’ve never gotten one there that was perfect the first time. I’ve always had to work with my fiverr designers. But, if you insist, you can format your book at www.calibre-ebook.com or www.juliansmart.com.

Once you have a cover, you’ll want to test it by uploading it to your Kindle page and seeing how it looks. As I said, I was shocked at what mine looked like the first time I uploaded one! Be prepared to make changes if necessary.

5. Prepare for your KDP promotion.

Decide on what kind of launch you are going to do.

If you’re a newbie, or just in a hurry, a KDP free launch is the best choice. There are over 50 annoucement sites that will announce your promotion so you get a lot of exposure quickly.  If you don’t have access to joint-venture partners or you don’t have enough time to get them on board, KDP free launch will work best. However, to use KDP you must give Kindle a 90-day exclusive.  During this time, you’ll be allowed to give your ebook away for up to 5 days. I never suggest doing more than two days at a time.  The promotion seems to lose steam after that. But, by giving it away, you’ll get a lot of takers and it can jump start sales.

The other option is to do a Countdown launch. With a Countdown promotion, you must wait 30 days.  This is so a regular price is established before it can be dropped to a promotion only price. A Countdown promotion allows you to drop the price and then bring it back up in increments over a period of days.  So let’s say your ebook is selling for $3.99. You could drop the price to $1.99 and then over a period of days bring it back up to $3.99

Countdown promotions will make you more money on the front end than free promotions, but, it may actually make you less in the long run.  You’ll have to test it to see what works best in your market over time.
