eBook-Writing Mistakes Story & Teleseminar

First I want to tell you a story about one of the mistakes I see students make all the time.

I had a student who wrote an ebook about how to “find” yourself. And she used her own story to illustrate what it takes to go through such a transformation.

But as I read her ebook, I noticed that she was very focused on HER story and HER journey, not what was in it of value that would make someone else want to read it.

I kept thinking “When is she going to get the part where she tells me how I can learn from her journey and what it’s going to do for me, the reader?”

Because I was her coach, I kept reading. But had I been a regular reader, I would have stopped long before I got to the part where she started taking the reader into account. I think I got to page 78 before she began sharing the lessons she’s learned and how the reader could benefit from them.

That’s way too long! You only want to give enough of your story and background to let the reader know that you’ve walked in their shoes, that you understand them-so they can connect with you. Beyond that, you want to get to the part about THEM; how you are going to help them and why they should keep reading!

If people don’t connect with you, and see what is of value to them they are going to stop reading and tell all their friends what a bore it was. And in my opinion, bad publicity is not better than no publicity.

I’m assuming that you want to sell a LOT of ebooks right? Then you want to avoid the common mistakes people make writing an ebook because it will help you avoid stress, guesswork, and guarantee that your ebook is successful from the get go!

This really hits home. As someone who professionally empowers people to find and live their best and brightest dreams, it’s crucial to keep the unique and special needs of the person you’re working with front and center. There may be important parallels in your life that relate to what the person you’re working with is going through, but if you don’t remember this is all about helping them, as opposed to making it your own personal solo, you’ll not be able to reach or help them.
