Don’t Let Your Internet Business Be DOA!

I see it all the time.  People come to me and they are so excited because they’ve wanted to start an Internet Business and they’ve finally got a a domain name, a website, and maybe a product or ebook.  And it’s DOA (dead on arrival).

There are many reasons for this and one was brought home to me today so I’m going to share it with you. (Next time I’ll write about some of the different issues that cause your busines to be DOA) .

I was following up with  one of my Facebook followers.  She was so excited-she had just come up with the domain name she was going to use and couldn’t wait to share it with me. 

So I sat on the edge of my seat, waiting to hear it (because she’d been working on this for quite a while).  Then she said it and immediately went into an explanation of exactly what it meant. 

Now, the fact that she felt compelled to explain was a clue right there that something was wrong.  You should NEVER have to explain what it means.

When it’s a great name, you “get” it right away.  When I hear a good one,  I get excited for my clients. And, if it’s REALLY good,  I feel goose bumps on the back of my neck. With this, I felt nothing. And I felt nothing. because I didn’t get it,  so it didn’t affect me. And it didn’t affect me because  I had no idea what it meant!

This domain choice would have  made her business DOA ( DEAD ON ARRIVAL)!  And, as I mentioned, this is not the only issue that can derail you;  it’s one of many! And when you don’t get it right,  no matter what your issue is,  it can undermine your self-confidence, and lead you to believe that only OTHER people can make money online!

But that’s simply not true. Anyone can with the right guidance! And, I can say that with confidence because I’ve seen it over and over with my coaching clients: when you build the proper foundation right from the start, you’ll KNOW before you build it out that it’s got the potential to be very successful!

But,  for that to happen you have to be able to communicate your message in everything you do, including picking a good domain name.  And with the right coach  you’ll be able to make the right choices for everything from finding the right domain name, to the look of your logo and website, to finding the right business model for you,  as well as,  the main marketing strategies and tactics you want to employ,  so you create a business that is not only successful but makes you happy!

If you try to do this alone, chances are you will make BIG  mistakes that could be the difference between success and failure.  In fact, this is one of the main reasons 95% of businesses fail in the first 5 years.  They don’t build a proper foundation and they try to do it on their own.

But the ones who succeed have help.  They know that a good coach, is worth his or her  weight in gold. That means finding someone who is doing what you want to do and who will guide you through the process. Not someone who only teaches one strategy and leaves you hanging to figure out the details that will make YOUR business successful (which is what happened to me when I was getting started).

If you find a great strategy you want to learn after you have the basics, Great go for it! But build the foundation FIRST! You’ll spend a lot less money getting started, and you’ll be a lot more focused which will lead to more leads, sales, and profits a lot faster with less effort!

I know from experience! I spent a LOT of money going from program to program and coach to coach as I built my business. But I was lucky enough to be able to put it all together over time and build a 6- figure income in 2 1/2 years and my clients have done it even faster

So now  you have a choice; continue to do what you’ve been doing and hope it works out  or  find a goood coach/mentor and build a solid  foundation so you can move forward quickly and build the  successful business you deserve. It’s up to you.

Are You Waiting For A Book Deal Before You Get Online Or Write An eBook? Don’t!

I consulted with a woman yesterday who has been sending her book around to publishers trying to get a publishing deal. And, while she’s waiting, time is going by and she isn’t working on selling her book. Instead, she’s waiting to see if her book gets picked up, and what publishers will do for her.

This is a big mistake. I recently attended a panel of publishers and agents at Author 101 University,  and they all agreed that  even if you want to go the traditional route, publishers no longer want to know what you WILL  do to promote your book, but what you have ALREADY DONE  including: how big of a list you have created,  and how many books you’ve sold yourself.

And, if you’ve been marketing online, building your community, and selling books,  you will have a much better chance of getting a traditional book deal than if you haven’t  In fact, publislhing houses will be MORE inclined to publish a really good book from an author who is doing a bang-up job marketing online, than a great book  with no online marketing behind it.

Also, there is no time like the present!  So many people have ereaders now, that you’ll want to take your book and put it online as an ebook at sites such as Amazon, Nook, iBookstore and others as soon as possible.

(First, I would test it will smaller groups to make sure you are ready to go “public”, and/or  have it reviewed, which I can do for you.  Just go to www.theebookcoach.com/services.html to order your review under ”eBook Review”  and I’ll give you a full report with any suggested changes ) . To get started,  you can just PDF the manuscript at www.pdf995.com which is free before giving it out.

Then you’ll need to put it in the epub format before you can submit it to  major ebook stores ( my company can do that  for you as well-just send an email to info@theebookcoach.com with the number of pages in your book and we’ll give you an estimate).  You’ll also need to get an ISBN number (Go to www.bowker.com in the US. Google it to find what you need in other countries.

Internet Marketing: Why Lisa Renna and David Cassidy Got Fired From Celebrity Apprentice And How To Avoid Their Mistakes!

Lisa Renna and David Cassidy were the first two celebrities to get fired from Celebrity Apprentice. Not Richard Hatch, and not  Dionne Warwick or Star Jones who seemed like good choices to go.  Why? Because  Lisa and David didn’t know how to market themselves.

No matter what the situation, you always have to look at who your market is and what they value. Then you have to figure out how you can present yourself in the best light to appeal to them based on your strengths. (And, you never want to lie about it.  Because you want to build trust and you can’t do it with lies.)

Both David and Lisa didn’t look at the situation and  figure out what there was about each of them that  would make Mr. Trump want to keep them in the game.

Trump values passion and fire. David didn’t show any but Richard Hatch and Jose Canseco, the two others brought in to the boardroom, did .  And David had a very laid-back style  and didn’t want to  “fight”. Plus, Richard Hatch was rude, physically pushing his castmates,  and was unpopular,  so  by all rights he  should have been fired; instead, David got the ax.

And, The Donald  values leaders who believe in themselves and Lisa admited all her faults, right up front,  without offering much to redeem herself. Lisa also didn’t like the idea of going after the others even though it had already been suggested that it was Dionne Warwick who should go.

I’m not saying anyone should betray their own style, but  by putting your best foot forward, and taking into consideration the needs and wants of your target marketing, you can come out a winner instead of hearing those dreaded words “You’re Fired”!

Book Marketing Online: How Many Books Do You Want To Sell?

I was talking to a book author who was selling her book for $14.30.  She sent an email to her list and sold two books. So I suggested to her that she turn her book into an ebook.  She said that she liked to hold a book in her hands.  I agreed.

But I countered, “What you can do is turn your book into an ebook, add bonuses so you can sell it for $27 or more, and then have the book as an upsell for $10 or $12. That way you can make a lot more money and you can still get the book.” She thought that was brilliant.

Then  I suggested she do an ebook launch. When you do an ebook launch,  you enlist several joint-venture partners,  who are targeting the same market as you,  to send an email to their subscribers promoting  your ebook. (And again, it’s better to do it as an ebook and upsell to the book if you have one,  then to sell the book straight out.)

You can sell hundreds of ebooks with an ebook launch-and even if you don’t have a lot of partners you can sell over 100 ebooks at once! And it’s a lot easier than doing a Virtual Book or eBook Tour because you have more control. You send out the email, and it isn’t like a live call where something can go wrong and it’s LIVE!

Now people are often skeptical when I tell them this, so I did an ebook launch to prove it doing it the way most people would.  I didn’t have video or audio on my page and the lists ran from about 200 people to 11,000 with the exception of one larger list that wasn’t as targeted and only made 3 sales.  We  had 22 people commit to the launch and 15 actually promote it.  And, we still sold 141 ebooks at a cost of $27 each.

We also had a $77 upsell of  recurring income, so we continue to make money from that launch every single month, As of today it’s made over $2442.00 for us.  Now,  that’s not a lot of money, but it’s a lot better than the $28.60 my colleague made! And remember, we didn’t go all out, plus,  we continue to make money with it every month without any more work.

Now, the truth is, done right,  you can make a lot more money than we made. I’ve made more money than this on a launch, (I’ve sold 350 ebooks with a couple of emails) but again, I wanted to do this the way most people do it. 

But the truth is,  it can be very lucrative. In fact, I’ve seen people make $100,000 with very big, very targeted lists. And, you can do ebook launches on your  ebook several times a year with different partners if you want to.

But, there are many details that have to be attended to in order for your launch to go off without a hitch.

Here are just a couple of them:  making sure that your ebook is ready (well-written, edited with a great title and ebook cover) and that your website is set up to convert visitors to buyers. The 1 eBook Solution To Making A 6-Figure Income Online; Why It Works!

The 1 eBook Solution works because,  the way I teach ebook-writing, I show you how to focus on the core idea of your business and then use the ebook to expound on that idea.  Then,  you  explain it to your audience,  so they will want to take the next step with you; this works best with a business that solves a problem for people and allows you to write a “how to” ebook.

(And, by the way this works using a book as well.)

Then,  once you’ve got your ebook written,  you can take your table of contents and create a coaching program from it.  And, it is the coaching program that will catapult you to a 6-figure income. 

Here’s how: let’s say you have a coaching program and you charge $2500 for it and you get 5 people into it-that’s $12,500. And then,  let’s say you do a group-coaching program around the same information and charge $997 and you get 10 people-that’s almost another $10,000.

Let’s say your program lasts 8 weeks-so you could do it every two months-but you’d like a little breathing room. So,  let’s say,  you do it 5 times a year. That’s $50,000 a year for your group coaching. and 5 people every two mnths in individual coaching which would give you  $62,500 for the year for a totla of $112,500.00 a year in revenue.

But,  you can get burned out doing that year after year if coaching isn’t your ultimate goal. So then,  let’s say that you turn your coaching program  into a microcontinuity program where you chunk it down into modules and get people to pay by the month. Now you can deliver it to hundreds of people at a time.  In fact, with just 50 people you could make $4850 a month at $97 a month which would either increase your revenue by over $50,000 a year or decrease your workload by only having to coaching 3 people a month instead of five.

And, with 100 people, you’d make almost $10,000 a month and $120,000 a year and you could stop doing individual coaching if you wanted to (or start charging a lot more) ! So you can see how you can start with one ebook and grow it out in a systematic way to a 6-figure income online; it all starts with an ebook!

Are You Willing To Take “Extreme Measures” For Your Success?

I recently watched “Extreme Measures” a movie with Harrison Ford, Brendon Frasier, and Kerry Russell and it is a masterful lesson in entrepreneurial success. (If you’re planning to watch it and don’t want to know what happnes then don’t read this!) The question is, how far are you willing to go for your success?

 Frasier and Russell played a couple-The Crowleys- with 3 children, two of whom  were suffering from Pompe which is a genetic disorder where children are born missing an enzyme. It enlarges their organs and eventually kills them- usually before the age of nine.

Ford played a scientist, Dr. Stonehill,  who was working on that enzyme.

As the Crowleys children approached 6 and 8 respectively and their condition was  deteriorating, Mr. Crowley who was a corporate executive, tried to reach Dr. Stonehill to see if he could  help Crowley’s kids-since it was common knowledge that Stonehill’s work was the most promising. But Crowley  was unsuccessful.

So, at least in the movie, he got an idea right in the middle of a meeting, left and  drove to Nebraska this scientist. (How many people would leave in the middle of a meeting, risk getting fired and drive to another state to meet someone who could help them reach their goal?)

When he finally got to speak with Dr. Stonehill, Stonehill was not encouraging. He told Crowley to go home and enjoy his kids while they were still alive. But Crowley refused to give up on finding a cure.  He asked Dr. Stonehill what he would need to turn what he had discovered in the lab into medicine for Crowley’s children.

He said that the university didn’t give him  anywhere near what he needed and it would take $500,000. Crowley didn’t blink. He said he’d get it.  Now, he had no idea where he would get it but he was determined he would get it. (How determined would you be?)

So, he and his wife started doing fundraisers and they were able to raise $91,000.  This fell well short of what they needed but it was enough to get Dr. Stonehill to take them seriously. In fact, he didn’t really expect them to raise that much. But since they had, he asked Crowley to go into business with him.

He explained that the hours would be long, Crowley would have to  take a huge pay cut and there were no guarantees. Crowley couldn’t say no. (He was highly-motivated which is a primary ingredient for success).  So, he commuted between his home and Stonehill’s lab in Nebraska. (He didn’t want to uproot his family so they stayed behind.)

However, Stonehill and Crowley  weren’t progressing fast enough to get to a clinical trial in the year that they had set as the deadline and so they needed venture capital.  Stonehill knew some venture capitalists who were scientists,  so he had Crowley set up a meeting with them. Crowley wanted to come prepared with a business plan, Stonehill thew a bunch of papers at him and told him to figure it out.

In the meeting, Stonehill lost his cool as the other scientists questioned him on the details of how  it was going to actually work-where they would get the raw materials and how it would be transfered from animals to humans, for example. Stonehill took it all personally, threw a fit,  and walked out. (This is not the way to get what you want!)

But Crowley knew that if they didn’t make this deal work, it would be over. So he drew up a deal that was a NO-BRAINER for the Venture Capitalists. (Give people what they want to get what you want.)

  His proposal brought Stonehill and the venture capitalists together (leveraging the strengths of each).  Stonehill got the money he needed to continue his work, and the brain power of the venture capitalists who knew how to take theory and bring it to fruition in a clinical trial and the venture capitalist got the chance to make millions from the drug sales.

But Stonehill didn’t want to sell out. In fact, he was furious at the suggestion, once Crowley told him that he’d offered this deal to the venture capitalists. But ultimately, Crowley convinced Stonehill  that was the only way and so he ultimately signed on. Stonehill was an idealist  , Crowley was a pragmatist, and one on a mission- he never lost his focus.

So Crowley and Stonehill went to work for the company. But it didn’t end there.  The way the company was run, they had 4 teams and they were all in competition with each other to come up with the best result.  That seemed counter productive to Crowley,  so he tried to get the brass to let the scientists share information-that didn’t go over well. They thought that scientists needed to be completely objective and compete.

Because Crowley disagreed, he called a meeting against the wishes of the brass, to introduce the scientists to real families who kids were suffering from this terrible disease. (He refused to tow the line-he thought outside the box, and he was willing to take flak for it.) He put a face on the disease which he felt would motivate them to come up with a cure faster which was the ultimate goal.

A leadership councel was then recommended and the brass made it clear that they didn’t want Stonehill on the team because he had trouble getting along with the other scientists.

Crowley  realized that the brass was right and he didn’t appoint Stonehill to the council. This caused a huge rift between the two men but Crowley was focused on the prize and wasn’t going to let anything get in his way.  

Once the council was established, they were to look at the 4 enzyme theories and decide which one would be the best to pursue in clinical trials.  After looking at them, they got it down to two.

Crowley then took them to Stonehill and asked him to evaluate them because he still trusted his opinion above all the others.  After creating such a rift,  someone less determined might have been to afraid or embarrased to ask Stonehill, but not Crowley. Stonehill was still angry, but ultimately, he came through and gave Crowley his opinion. And,  it looked like they were on their way to getting the medicine.

But then, the brass decided that the trial would only be for infants because they couldn’t afford the amount of medicine they would need to treat older children. In desperation, Crowley, tried to steal some of the medicine to give to his kids.  He would have been found out except that Stonehill covered for him.  Not a smart move-but it shows the lengths that he would go to to reach his goal. And, it showed that Stonehill understood that anyone in Crowley’s position might attempt the same thing.

In desperation and not willing to let go, Crowley and Stonehill racked their brains to come up with another solution. It turned out that if two siblings had the same disease, you could do a clinical trial with just two children. They found a hospital that would do it, then went to the brass to get permission.

Unfortunately, the brass was furious,  feeling that the pair  had gone behind their backs. But even worse, in their opinion, Crowley had a conflict of interest working for the company and putting his own children in the trial.  The brass refused to give their permission.

At that point it looked as if Crowley had finally been defeated.  But Stonehill wasn’t done yet. He went to the brass and pitched a fit.  And, he came up with a great solution-fire Crowley, then there would be no conflict.
So that’s what they did. The kids got the medicine, and it worked!

This is a classic tale that illustrates all of the elements needed for success. There was intense motivation. The wilingness to take action and go to any lengths. The ability to think outside the box. The unwillingness to listen to naysayers. The unwillingness to let money stop you. The willingness to compromise when out of other options. Team work (and leveraging the strengths of each instead of trying to do everything yourself)  , And incredible persistence. Here, against incredible odds, the impossible became possible.

I use Instant Teleseminar and I love it.  One of the things I used to hate about giving teleseminars was that it took two days to get the replay up and people would be emailing me and complaining about it. With Instant Teleseminar,  you get an instant replay line.  And, if you want to,  you can take it down when you have time, edit it and reload it.

One day I was feeling stuck- I needed an opt-in page. My wep person didn’t have time.
Also, I wanted to start adding videos without my husband having to shoot it because he had been sick. And, I only knew how to do audio.

It was just released today, so I haven’t been able to use this one yet. But,  I saw the demo and it looks amazing!
