99-Cent Countdown Deals vs. 99-Cent eBook Kindle Promotions

If you have a new ebook and you don’t want to give it away for free, or you have an ebook that you’d like to give a boost to, so it gets increased ranking, you can kickstart sales and increase interest with a 99-cent promotion.Hand with a stopwatch.

Before I go into the details of each, I want to preface it by saying that some people think 99-cent books are a bad idea, I disagree. And here’s why. Buyers buy.

Offering a book for 99 cents gets you buyers instead of lookie loos who only snap up free books and never pay for anything.

On the other hand, buyers who are willing to pay even such a nominal fee for your ebook may buy other ebooks as well as more expensive products that you offer (either now or in the future) . And these promotions are just that, promotions; it’s not forever.  So let’s move on.

There are two ways to do .99 cent promotions in Kindle.

One is to do a Countdown Deal and the other is to do a straight 99-cent deal. Both are done in KDP, so that you can get the 70% royalty.  However, when you do it as a Countdown Deal, you can drop the price of your book all the way down to 99 cents and still get the 70% royalty throughout the promotion.

In addition, your ebook will be listed on the current Countdown-Deals page, so you’ll get more exposure from Amazon than you would get simply by dropping the price. But, you can only do it from 1 hour to 7 days, with up to 5 intermediate price points during the promotion.

With a 99-cent promotion, you won’t get the 70% royalty during the promotion, but by putting it in KDP, you can still get the 70% royalty AFTER the promotion, and you can run the promotion for as long as you like. I suggest, based on my conversation with Jeanette Cates-who has been using this strategy quite successfully-that you run it for 30 days.

Jeanette has found that if you promote each ebook for the first 30 days, following her program, it will continue to make money for you every single month. But, you’ve got to follow the program to get the results.

How to Deal With Negative Reviews on Amazon Kindle Books!

BalanceBe sure to look at your Kindle reviews on a regular basis because you never know when someone is going to leave a review and there is always the possibility that it won’t be a good one! When that happens you want to be ready with a plan of action.

This isn’t always easy when you are hot under the collar, so first, take a breathe and don’t send anything out when you are angry. You have plenty of time! Amazon gives you a full 60 days to try and get it removed,

But, having said that,  if you aren’t watching for negative reviews, you could miss your window of opportunity! So you do need to pay attention.

When you see one, you’ll want to access whether it falls in one of these categories or no.  If it does, Amazon will remove it.

1. It’s obscene, profane, or spiteful.

2. It contains personal information. Amazon prohibits phone numbers, email addresses, or URLS.

3. It includes pricing information, alternative shipping, or purchasing methods.

4. It’s a product review (if it’s only partially a product review, they will let it stand.)

5. The entire review is on customer service.

6. They will remove reviews by other authors.

7.  It includes inaccurate information or information has nothing to do with the book

8. People impersonating other people

9.  Anything with a political bias

10. Anything that is an advertisement for the reviewer

You can request to have a review removed at: community-help@amazon.com

If the review does not fall into one of these categories, you’ll want to first, contact the reviewer. You can offer a refund and/or a reason as to why it wasn’t a fair review and see how they respond. Then, ask them to remove it. But, you can’t pressure them to remove it, that is against Amazon’s rules.

If they won’t remove it, then respond to the review itself in Kindle. Or, if there are extenuating circumstances contact Amazon and see if they will still remove it. (Extenuating circumstances might be something like you didn’t see the review because it was so far down the list that it was hidden, or it actually met one of the criteria above, but you didn’t realize it until now for some reason.)

If that isn’t feasible. and you plan to reply to the review, be professional and don’t get defensive. And, before you make your remarks public, write them all down and run them by someone you trust who isn’t going to get emotional about it.

You can also write it, put it away, and come back to it later. But, make sure it’s appropriate before publishing it. You don’t want to have a public meltdown as it could go viral.

So, stay alert and check your reviews at least every two weeks. This will give you enough time to deal with whatever situations come up. And just know that it may be a blessing in disguise to make your book better, or it may just be sour grapes.

If it needs work, fix it, if it’s sour grapes learn to just let it go and know that it’s  their problem not yours.
