How Writing an eBooks Led to a #1 Best-Seller, Insane Traffic, Twitter Madness & More!

gerriGerri Chambers had no idea how much her life was about to change when she decided to register for my 3 Days to eBook Cash Workshop.  She didn’t even want to be an author. She wanted to be an entrepreneur.

But, she saw the value in writing an ebook to kick start her business.  What she didn’t know was that she would become a #1 Best-seller TWICE, in a very short mount of time and not just start a business, but start a movement!

But, I’m getting ahead of myself.

Gerri wrote her ebook in the 3 Days to eBook Cash Workshop,  but she was struggling to find the right title, so we worked on it together after the workshop (you get additional help after the workshop at the Platinum or Platinum Plus level and she took the Platinum Plus), and I came up with the concept of Bossy! I happened to see a news article with the owner of a successful clothing business, and it was called “Boss Gal”,  or something like that,  and that’s where I got the idea.

Gerri loved it so since the title was settled, she went to work on her subtitle and eventually came up with: 8 Steps to Take you from Paycheck to Prosperity(tm) with a Home-Based Business after looking at the research and who she wanted to reach.

And the timing couldn’t have been more perfect;  there was some noise in social media about the negative connotation of the word “Bossy” and Amy Poehler came out and said this: “I love Bossy women, I could be around them all day. To me, bossy is not a pejorative term, at all. It means, somebody’s passionate, and engaged, and ambitious, and doesn’t mind leading.” and we started jumping up and down because that was the exact idea behind Bossy!

Once it was finished, I coached Gerri to #1 on the Best-Seller list and she chose a one-day promotion and got over 500 downloads. Then, she decided to do it again on her own and hit #1 AGAIN with over 500 downloads again!

And then something even m ore amazing happened, she got noticed. An online publicist saw the tweets for her book and loved it so much that he offered to work with her. And in just 6 weeks, she has built her following to 392K twitter followers, and since launching her site she’s been averaging over 400 visitors a day and has started Team Bossy Gals-a movement to empower women all over the world to be leaders, to be BOSSY! The woman is on FIRE!

And it all started with an ebook!

The 7 Biggest Mistakes Authors Make With a KDP Launch! (And How to Avoid Them)!

ebookcomputer1.  Not doing the research to optimize your title and Kindle sales page. If you want to get found in Kindle, both during your promotion and after, you need to optimize your title as well as Kindle parameters. You also need optimize  to differentiate your ebook from the other ones in your category.

3. Going into Kindle at the last minute and making changes when your launch is set to run. Launches don’t always go live right at midnight, so be patient. If you panic and go back into Kindle, it will set your lanch back even longer because when you make changes, Amazon sends it back into draft mode, and then, it has to be approved all over again.

4. Not telling people the right time that your ebook is going to be free. Promotions generally run from midnight Pacific time, to 11:59 Pacific time, where Amazon is located, so be sure to put the Pacific time zone in your communications with joint-venture partners and potential buyers. When people in another time zone don’t know that it’s Pacific time, they will go looking for it before it’s live and they won’t be able to find it.  This will cause frustration and the loss of valuable downloads, which can affect your ability to rank as a best-seller. 

5. Ignoring the research. Not putting your ebook in the right categories or pricing it correctly. I’ve walked authors through the research and showed them which categories are best, the most powerful keywords, and best pricing, and then watched them ignore my advice and not get the results they wanted. My system works but you have to follow it!

6. Wanting to keep your ebook free once the promotion is over instead of moving on to the paid phase, or switching it to .99 There are different price-reduction strategies and which one you should use depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you simply reduce the price to .99 you will get a 35% royalty. But, if you do it as a Countdown Deal, you will continue to receive the 70% royalty. 7. Not taking advantage of all the promotional tools available to you during a launch. There are many free announcement sites where you can list your launch and this is pretty much mandatory for a successful launch unless you have a huge number of influential joint-venture partners on your team-and even then, why would you pass up all this free promotion? Having said that, there are also many things you can do to further enhance your launch. These include: enlisting joint-venture partners, doing a press release, creating videos, doing a Google Hangout, and lining up guest blog posts, to name a few.  The possibilities are endless!

KDP launches are a great way to create buzz about your ebook, grow you subscriber list, and make sales but you have to know what you are doing.  Avoid these 7 mistakes  and you’ll have a much smoother launch! Why do a Countdown Promotion in Kindle?

A Countdown promotion gives potential buyers a reason to take action NOW! It allows you to discount the price of your ebook and still get a 70% royalty all the way down to 99 cents! And the regular price will show next to the discounted price on your Kindle sales page.

In addition, Amazon has a dedicated webpage for Kindle Countdown Deals where readers go to find great deals.

What are the rules for a Countdown Promotion in Kindle?

1. Your ebook must be in KDP Select. (That means it’s exclusive to Kindle for a 90-day period and cannot be sold anywhere else.)
Note: It only works at this time in the U.S. and the U.K.

2. The regular price of your ebook must be between $2.99-$24.99 in the U.S. and 1.93-14.99 pounds U.K. including VAT and you can schedule one in each of the two marketplaces.

3. Your ebook must have been enrolled in KDP Select for at least 30 days (at the regular price). And it cannot be changes for 14 days after the promotion as well.

4. You must be willing to discount your ebook at least $1.00 off the regular price. But just know that the more you discount it, the more incentive there will be for potential customers to buy it during the promotion. Also note that you can choose the number of price increments you want to include in the promotion (up to 5)

5. You must pick a time frame for your promotion and it can be anywhere from one hour to  7 days.

6. The latest end time for your deal must be 14 days before your KDP Select period ends and you cannot do a Countdown deal in the same 90-day period as a KDP free promotion. However, if you choose another consecutive 90-day period after the present one, then  you may end your Countdown promotion on the last day of your current KDP Select period.

When Can I Schedule a Countdown Promotion?

You can schedule it to start 24 hours from the time that you create it rounded out to the next full day in the Bookshelf area of your dashboard at www.kdp.amazon.com
