How to get your first 4-6 Glowing Kindle Reviews!

Friday, October 31st, 2014

ebookcomputerBefore you can do a KDP launch in Kindle, you must have four to six 5 and/or 4 star reviews.

Otherwise, some of the announcement sites for KDP launches won’t share your promotion with their audience.  You’ll also want them for more sales. So assuming you’ve written a great ebook, there are several ways to get them:

  1. Use Amazon Reviewers
  2. Ask colleagues and joint venture partners
  3. Ask your best customers
  4. Ask your subscribers
  5. Ask your followers in social media

Amazon reviews are the top reviewers in Amazon. They are known for writing unbiased and well-written reviews that can help you make sales and gain loyal customers.  Amazon reviewer’s reviews are generally the top ones and it will say so on the review, so people know it’s a review they can trust.

You’ll have to send 100-200 queries generally to get 20 or 30 reviews. So, if you want Amazon Reviewer reviews from the get go, you’ll want to send to send out promotional copies, preferably, before your book is finished. (You can do this by getting a draft of your book into Amazon for pre-orders.)

You can also ask colleagues for reviews of your book.  I find that the best ones to ask are those people who are going to help you promote your KDP launch because they would not agree to help you if they didn’t believe in your project so they will generally write good reviews! (This is a good reason to use JV’s for your promotion!)

Next, I would ask your best customers- if you have them.  Again, these are people who love what you do and want to support you, so they will generally write good reviews as well.

After that, I would ask subscribers and followers in social media. The reason I put these at the bottom of the list is because you don’t necessarily have a close relationship with these people and so you are more apt to get some negative reviews from this list.

The truth is that some people have a big ego and like to think they know more than you, others just don’t want to see you succeed because they are jealous, so they relish writing negative reviews and bring you down.  And I have found that these generally come from your subscriber list or followers who don’t have a close relationship with you and aren’t your loyal customers.

How you get reviews is up to you, but if you want to stack the deck in your favor, go to your joint-venture partners and best customers first.  Once your book is live and you do your launch anyone can write a review.  But, to get you started you want the best reviews you can get and this is the best way to get them.

5 Things You Must Do Before Going Live or Launching on Kindle!

Saturday, October 25th, 2014

depositphotos_8542218-Books-fly-into-your-tablet-3D1.  Find the best keywords and phrases for your book title and categories in Kindle.
Your book won’t get found in Kindle or any other search engine if you don’t have the best title. You also need to know this before you can figure out what categories to choose for your book in Kindle. And if you don’t have this information, no one will be able to download it or buy it! Once you’ve got your keywords and phrases, you can figure out how you want to approach your topic and create a best-seller title!

2. Optimize your Kindle page.
Once you’ve written your ebook, you have two choices.  You can format your ebook, and then upload it when it’s ready. Or, you can
send Amazon a rough copy (still needing proofing etc.). Once they approve it, they will publish a Kindle page, so you can take pre-orders. But, your buyers won’t actually get
the book until you upload the final one and it goes live.

3. Upload your eBook to Kindle
When you upload your book to Kindle, they will ask you a series of questions and you will have to fill in the blanks.
Your title, name, etc. One of the questions is whether you want to include an ISBN number; know that you don’t need this for an ebook.
They will also ask if you want to use DRM.  This protects your ebook from theft so I recommend you use it.

But the most important question is whether you want to put your book in KDP or not.  If you decide to put it in KDP, you will have to
give Kindle an exclusive for 90 days. (i.e. you can’t sell it anywhere else during that time.) But, putting it in KDP allows you to
receive a 70% royalty on all books over $2.99.  (You can also receive a 70% royalty on ebook under $2.99 when you do a Countdown
promotion which will discuss further in a minute.)

Make sure you check your cover as early as possible. I was shocked the first time I uploaded on and it was a blurry mess! It took
weeks to sort it out and it help up publishing my ebook! Very frustrating.

4. Format and Test your eBook

There are several formats that Kindle accepts. The best are mobi and epub. I use mobi.

But, I don’t recommend that you format you own ebooks. It’s a time-consuming technical skill and you’re better off paying someone and spend those hours promoting yourself and your business or coaching clients! We can do it for you at www.ebookthis.com  Or, if you have a good eye, you can work with someone on www.fiverr.com. But be forwarned, I’ve never gotten one there that was perfect the first time. I’ve always had to work with my fiverr designers. But, if you insist, you can format your book at www.calibre-ebook.com or www.juliansmart.com.

Once you have a cover, you’ll want to test it by uploading it to your Kindle page and seeing how it looks. As I said, I was shocked at what mine looked like the first time I uploaded one! Be prepared to make changes if necessary.

5. Prepare for your KDP promotion.

Decide on what kind of launch you are going to do.

If you’re a newbie, or just in a hurry, a KDP free launch is the best choice. There are over 50 annoucement sites that will announce your promotion so you get a lot of exposure quickly.  If you don’t have access to joint-venture partners or you don’t have enough time to get them on board, KDP free launch will work best. However, to use KDP you must give Kindle a 90-day exclusive.  During this time, you’ll be allowed to give your ebook away for up to 5 days. I never suggest doing more than two days at a time.  The promotion seems to lose steam after that. But, by giving it away, you’ll get a lot of takers and it can jump start sales.

The other option is to do a Countdown launch. With a Countdown promotion, you must wait 30 days.  This is so a regular price is established before it can be dropped to a promotion only price. A Countdown promotion allows you to drop the price and then bring it back up in increments over a period of days.  So let’s say your ebook is selling for $3.99. You could drop the price to $1.99 and then over a period of days bring it back up to $3.99

Countdown promotions will make you more money on the front end than free promotions, but, it may actually make you less in the long run.  You’ll have to test it to see what works best in your market over time.

How to Start Making Money with Your eBook on Kindle Before You Publish It!

Friday, October 17th, 2014

iStock_000010087831XSmallDid you know that you can start taking orders on Kindle BEFORE you publish your ebook?

In fact, your customers can order your ebook up to 90 days in advance of it’s release.

But,  in order to get approved for pre-orders, it must be a new Kindle book- later editions and Public Domain books are not eligible- and you’ll have to upload a draft of your ebook for review by Amazon. That gives you time for some copywriting and proofing changes. BTW:  You can list up to 10 titles at a time-and as they are released it will make room for more.

One advantage of taking advanced orders is it allows you to start promoting your ebook before it’s released so you can start creating some buzz, which could include promoting it in Author Central, Goodreads, your own site, Facebook-anyplace where you potential customers might be ! Plus, pre-orders count toward sales rank. Pretty cool, huh?

The way it works is that when you list your book, you choose “Make my book available for pre-order” and set a date in the future. Amazon will then publish a product details page for it within 24 hours of approval, however, potential customers will not be able to download any sample content.

You can list pre-orders books in all marketplaces except Amazon.com.in; it’s not available there. And then, your book will be released at midnight local time in each marketplace.

The only stipulation is that you must upload your final manuscript at least 10 days before your release date with the last day for uploading starting at U.S. Eastern time. You can, however, postpone the release one time for a maximum of 30 days past the initial release date. Customers who pre-ordered will receive an email with the change. If you need to cancel the pre-order, you may unpublish your book from the Bookshelf in Kindle.

You’ll receive credit for the sales once the ebooks are actually delivered to your customers and royalties will be  paid 60 days after the end of the month, once you meet the monthly minimum requirement

2 Easy Strategies for Deciding on a Special Reports Topic For Your Funnel!

Tuesday, October 14th, 2014

1X6ebookmegapackfinalspiralThere are two ways to decide what to write for your special report if it is part of a funnel and not a stand-alone product.

(BTW: You’ll make a lot more money if you use it with a funnel instead of as a stand-alone product.)

1.  Start with an idea for a special report, and then flush out a funnel from it.

2.  Start with the end in mind and work backwards.

So first, let’s talk about starting with an idea, and then flushing out a funnel.

Starting with a Special-Report Idea.

Step 1. Do the research and figure out what problem your target market has that you can solve for them.

There are many ways to do this.  I like looking at the reviews of books on the topic in Amazon or Kindle and see what people want to know that’s not being answered in the books that are available. Because that will not only give me the idea for a special report, but also for a book.

With a book, I can create a table of contents and build an entire funnel from that.  (In fact, that is the process that I spell out in The 1 eBook Solution, the 12 steps to turning a single ebook in to a 6-figure income online (You can check it out and get two free chapters at:  www.1ebooksolution.com)

You can also look at comments in social media and blog comments, forums, and discussion boards for more special-report ideas.

Step 2. Once you’ve got an idea, you’ve got to create a title that captures your audiences attention.

Step 3. Write your report.

Step 4.  Make or get a professional looking cover.

Step 5. Format it

Step 6.  Test it to see if it converts.

Step 7. If it doesn’t convert change  your title, if that doesn’t increase conversion, then change your cover.

Start with the End in Mind

Step 1. What is the end goal?  Figure it out.

(Do you want to promote a coaching program, a home-study course, or a service, or maybe just a book or ebook?)

Step 2.  Figure out how many intermediate steps you need to get to your special report and map it out.

For instance, with a coaching program you might have several steps whereas with a book or ebook you might just have one step.

Example:  Your funnel working backwards might look like this: Coaching program-free webinar-special report

Or it might be: membership-ebook-special report

Or just ebook, special report.

Step 3.  Write your title

Step 4. Write your grocery list of the basic points.  So let’s say there are 6 modules in your coaching program.  You’d have the 6 Steps to X

as your special report.

Step 5. Get or make your cover

Step 6. Format it.

Step 7. Test to see if it converts.

Step 8. If it doesn’t convert, change the title, if that doesn’t increase your conversion, then change your cover.

7 Reasons to Join an Author’s Mastermind Now!

Friday, October 10th, 2014

1. You’ll be held accountable so that you achieve what you set out to accomplish. It’s easy to go off course when you work alone at home-especially when there are so many ways to market your ebook or book, and business. But, when you are in a group of serious author/entrepreneurs who are getting the job done, it will motivate you to get it done as well!

Plus, you’ll have to report back to the group each time on what you’ve accomplished, and nobody wants to show up and have to admit that they didn’t get anything done! So, you get more done!

2. You’ll receive input and feedback from other successful author/entrepreneurs on how to solve the most pressing issues in your business. Several minds are better than one! Have you ever tried to come up with a solution to a problem? Racked your brain for hours and come up with nothing? Then, shared the problem or challenge with a colleague or friend and they rattled off something brilliant in just a few seconds? It was probably right in front of you, but you couldn’t see it!

But, the truth is that author/entrepreneurs think differently than Internet Marketers. They have a message they want to get out to the world, it’s not JUST about the money-although the money is nice. So, marketing for authors is a little different than it is for Internet Marketers (which is why an Internet Marketing mastermind isn’t the best choice for an author/entrepreneur!)

Sometimes, we’re just too close to a situation to see the answer. But, having a group to run your ideas by can save you hours of stress and frustration! Having access to the brain power of several very bright and committed advisors to help is priceless!

3. You’ll be exposed to new ideas, tools, strategies, and people who can make a huge difference in your life! There are so many ways to market online that it’s very unlikely that any two people would ever be doing exactly the same thing in exactly the same way with their marketing. When you work with a group of people who are all out there working on their businesses, you’ll get to see what others are doing and what’s working for them that could work for you and a whole new world will open up to you!

4. You’ll expand your network without having to “network” as well as gaining the opportunity to cross promote and leverage your time, money, and energy.
By getting together with other author/entrepreneurs on a regular basis, you’ll get to know each other and share resources as well as opportunities. And nobody becomes successful on line by going it alone. So, this will greatly increase your ability to succeed.

5. You’ll have the opportunity to form deep and lasting relationships with amazing people! A mastermind allows you to connect with people at a deeper level than would otherwise be possible and these relationships can enrich your life and help you grow as a person.

6. You’ll gain more confidence in your own ability to become a leader in your field! As you mastermind with others and offer solutions to their problems, as well as feedback and support, you’ll gain confidence in your own abilities and you’ll begin to see your own strengths and leadership qualities and start appreciating them. This will be invaluable as you share your message with the world!

7. You’ll start to think BIGGER!
As you hear what others are doing and what is possible, you’ll start to think BIGGER. And when you think BIGGER, you’ll be able to make a lot more money!

How to Find a Hot Topic for Your Special Report that will Produce Massive Leads & Sales!

Saturday, October 4th, 2014

Do you have a problem or challenge that you’ve solved for yourself, your family, a friend, a client, customer, or a colleague?

If so, that might be the perfect topic for a special report.

If you find yourself saying “I could do this better” or I wish there were a better solution for this….., you may have a winner!

The key is not to jump in right away, but to test your theory once you come up with a topic you are interested in pursuing.

Do the research before making a final decision.

See if others are having the same problem or challenge and looking for a solution too.

See how many clicks the keywords for your topic get per month using the  Google Keyword Tool (www.googlekeywordtool.com) or Wordtracker (www.freekeyword.wordtracker.com).

You’ll also want to check in Amazon/Kindle and see what’s actually selling. Then, pick a different approach.

You can go to article sites like Go Article or news sites like CNN (depending on the niche) and look for trending topics there.

Another great resource is blog comments. You can check blog comments on popular blogs in your niche for topic ideas.

There are literally hundreds of sites where you can research topics. (In Special Reports List-Building Blueprint, I’ve shared 36 of them including 3 of my favorites!)

And don’t pick a topic JUST because it’s trending! Make sure it’s something that interested you.  Because if it does end up being a winner, you’ll want to create other products and possibly services around it and if it doesn’t interest you, it probably won’t pan out and you will have wasted your time!

And if you don’t get the results you had hoped for, don’t worry; it’s not a big investment of time, energy, or money. Try tweaking the title and/or the cover. And if that doesn’t explode downloads or sales, just write another one!

(To learn more about special reports and to join the Special Report List-Building Blueprint Program go to: www.theebookcoach.com/special-report-blueprint)
This program has already started but registration is still open through Tuesday, October 7th, 4 p.m. PDT/ 7 p.m. EDT
