The 8 Faces of Authors Fears And How To Handle Them So They Don’t Derail You! Part 6 (It’s Overwhelming!)

Buried

Introduction:

When I got online, I was naïve enough and confident enough to think that I could succeed and so I did….to a point. But, as I came up against certain challenges and what I perceived as failures, I found myself becoming frustrated and scared. Afraid to take risks like the ones that got me to a 6-figure income in the first place because some didn’t pan out and they cost me money and shook my confidence. And others made me look bad when my JV partners didn’t reap the benefits I had promised based on past performance.

In fact, I’ve suffered from almost every one of these fears at one time or another and I’m still in the game. So, I wanted to share my thoughts with you in this 8-part series, so you can keep moving forward in your business in spite of your fears.

Fear #6. It’s Overwhelming!

What most authors and author/entrepreneurs do starting out is attend free webinars and teleseminars to find out what’s available to them. The problem is that there are just too many choices. And because each expert wants you to buy their products and programs, they usually fail to point out that what they offer isn’t right for everyone and who their products and programs will best serve.

So you drink the Kool-Aid and you start buying stuff because it sounds sooooo good! But, also there’s a little bit of fear that maybe you are going to miss out on something if you don’t buy.

Then, you try to put the program into action and you hit a brick wall-it’s harder than they said it would be! Or the instructions SUCK! Or, they out and out lied about what it can and can’t do for you and the level of expertise you need to execute it.

You get more frustrated. Then, another program comes along and it sounds a lot easier so you buy it and the same thing happens.

In the meantime, you get into email overload signing up for all these classes.

Sound familiar?

My suggestion: Have two emails accounts. I have tier 1 with the ones I know I don’t want to miss and tier 2 with the ones I look at once or twice a week.

At the same time, you’re trying to build a subscriber list, and a community, and web pages and figure out upsells and downsells and….maybe you don’t have money to outsource or you don’t think you do so you’re doing ALL the jobs yourself…..and…..

It’s OVERWHELMING!

So, take a breath!

It doesn’t have to be this way!

So here’s how to avoid overwhelm (if you’re looking for an easy-to-follow process specifically for authors or anyone with a message). It’s called The Rich Author’s Roadmap To Success.

1. Figure out what business model will work best for you.
This should be based on what your goals are, how you want to spend your time, what you love to do, and what skills you have that you can excel at. This is crucial.

Look for a system that is step-by-step and easy to follow.

If you need help, the best thing to do is schedule a free 6-Figure Business Consultation with me.
Send an email to ellen@theebookcoach.com and I’ll put you on the waiting list.

2. Do the research and lay the foundation.
Figure out what you have to offer that is unique and that solves a problem that your target market wants solved. (Make sure they are online, have money to spend, and are fanatical about the subject-in other words, repeat buyers)

Pick a topic where you have both the skill and if possible the passion so that you will stick with it.

3. Build your social-media platform.
-Use an aggregator like Hootsuite or Social Oomph so you can schedule many of your posts in advance.
-Use social media buttons on your blog so you can send out your blog posts quickly
-Tip: I do a lot of my social media when I want a break from a project I’m working on, while watching tv in the evening and when I can’t sleep!

4. Write your ebook using the 3 Days to eBook Cash process so it’s fast and easy. Or, do it as an interview and transcribe it.

5. Optimize your Kindle Sales page so you don’t leave money on the table on Kindle.

6. Launch your eBook using KDP to build a subscriber list practically overnight

7. Turn your ebook into a series of related products so you have a funnel of products. You can do this in just a couple of hours using the Rich Author’s Roadmap to Success process.

8. Market your ebook and your funnel with marketing pieces created directly from your ebook.

9. Repeat the process.

This process will get you focused, help you build a list very fast, take the guesswork out of the process, and get you making money very quickly.

The key is once you decide that this is the right model for you to follow, just do it step-by-step and STOP buying other products and listening to other models. Once you’ve mastered it you can then decide to add another piece to it. Then, and only then, should you buy another program.

Fear #5 It’s too much work!

I’m totally guilty of this one and it has cost me! I can think of a few programs that I’ve bought in the past, got into it, and decided it was too much work.

One was just- flat out-too much work. Another one, I got stuck and couldn’t find a way to get the help I needed to move forward AND it was a lot of work.

But, I didn’t ask for my money back in either case and just took the hit. That was dumb. I should have asked for my money back. (I could of put that money in a mutual fund and let it grow-it was over $1,000!)

And to make matters worse, when I look back now, I realize that I’ve ended up doing a lot more work because I didn’t do it.

You see, it would have given me passive, recurring income, and a good amount of it. And it would have saved a lot of wear and tear on my body and my psyche. But, I told myself that I needed to make active income to pay the bills and that I needed instant cash flow (which I did). And I decided to start a membership site instead.

But, guess what, that’s a lot of work too; and you have to BE there on a regular basis! I only had to do the other ones ONCE!

But, truth be told, when I think back, I remember thinking these programs WERE a lot of work-I just wasn’t being honest with myself. Because if I had, I would have set aside time every day to work on it and get it done. I just didn’t understand the VALUE of it at the time.

Maybe it was ignorance, or a character flaw, but I want things to be relatively easy. I know everything takes work, but I want to work on what I enjoy working on and as I said is relatively easy; I hate getting stuck!

So instead, I spent the last 3 years, kicking and screaming, crying at times, and feeling frustrated that I didn’t have more passive income I wanted and I was getting burned out, while continuing to run my business as I always had but, scour offers I received looking for the one that could remedy the situation. But, the problem was I had spent over $70,000 on programs that didn’t work for me and I had lost faith in “the experts” and I just couldn’t do it anymore.

So, I looked at very low-cost solutions. And, I never did find one but, I did find some things that made me some extra money that I felt I could do-which gave me some confidence and hope.

And the funny thing was, I was making all this money for my clients, but not finding the time to make my business work the way I wanted it to for me.

But, I started selling these special reports on Fiverr. Now doing It was still work, but I figured it out quickly and it started paying off! Slowly, but surely, I’ve been making more and more money with it each time I add more reports.

It was easy because I could take create them directly from my ebooks and webinars. I learned it using a program called Fiverr Factory. If you want to check it out go to: http://tinyurl.com/fiverrpassiveprofits (I’m an affiliate now.)

But, it still didn’t solve the whole problem; I was creating products without a plan. One here and one there, anytime I saw a need for one. After a while, I had so many products, I didn’t even know what I had any more and it was a mess! And no complete funnels-very frustrating!

I knew that wasn’t good, that I needed funnels of products that made sense and worked. But, I still wasn’t sure what to create and in what order without losing my regular cash flow.

Then, one day, the light bulb went off in my head!

I had already written The 1 eBook Solution, the 12 secrets to turning a single ebook into a six-figure income. And it was a great start. But, it still wasn’t step-by-step. It was one from Column A and one from Column B so, you still had to figure out which way you wanted to go. (Luckily, it’s still a great resource.)

Then, I stumbled upon a system for creating 6 products from your ebook in a couple of hours! BINGO!

Hell! I was already creating most of the pieces-I just hadn’t realized how they all could work together!

And, I was already using ebooks to create my marketing materials as well. That part I had nailed.

But, this was a dream come true!

So, that’s what I started doing-systematically creating funnels. Of course, since I’ve had to back track it’s taking some time, but it’s made life so much easier: more passive income, less work, less stress, and more profitable overall! And the new funnels are really fast and easy!

So, my point is, be honest with yourself. If you’re not creating the income you want, fess up. Decide what you are willing to do and what you aren’t willing to do; find a system that you can follow that will be EASY for you to do. I can help with that.

Or, find something you really want to do, and if it’s difficult, get the help you need to implement it. Be willing to do the work ONCE and get it up and running so you don’t have to do other work over and over again and burn yourself out! Decide if the rewards in the long-run are worth it. Then take action!
