Do You REALLYWant To Be A Published Author Making A 6-Figure Income?

Friday, May 24th, 2013

If you really want it, you can have it. You need to start by asking yourself, and answer honestly, if you are willing to do what it takes to get it. And then commit to it. W.H. Murray nailed it in this quote:

“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits to oneself, then Providence moves too.

All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way. I learned a deep respect for one of Goethe’s couplets:

‘Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!’”
~W. H. Murray

The problem for most people is that their thoughts stop them. They start to think about everything they don’t know how to do, or why it can’t work and they never take action. Or, when they come up against a wall, they stop instead of figuring out how to solve it.

When you become committed, you start asking better questions, like “HOW can I make this work? And “What is it going to take to make it work?” Or, “How can I solve this constraint?”

Maybe it requires buying a particular program on what you are trying to do. Maybe it means, finding another target market, a different topic or angle, or, hiring a coach. Maybe it’s changing your mindset. But, the bottom line is that when it’s not working something has to change. And when you’re committed, you’ll hang in until you fix it. If you’re not, you won’t.

eBook & Book Topics: Finding Innovative Ideas For Writing Best-sellers For Big Profits!

Tuesday, May 14th, 2013

innovateFigure out what you can deliver that your market wants that is new, exciting, and/or different from what is already on the market.

To be successful you MUST add something new to the conversation. This is your angle or your hook-what gets people’s attention and focused on your topic, otherwise there is no reason for people to buy your ebook or book.

And this is true with any product. Think about detergent. How many times have you heard buy “new and improved” Tide or Downey for example.

Another example: The Great Gatsby –when we heard Baz Lurhmann was doing a remake of it, my husband said he wasn’t interested in seeing that again. Then, we saw the promo for it, and the visuals and the music were awesome plus, it’s in 3D. Now it’s on our list of MUST-SEE movies!

It’s the same with books and ebooks. You have to approach your topic from a new angle. And if you have a new angle you have to make sure people KNOW that it’s one! For instance, I had a client who was a chiropractor and he was writing about his all natural system for healing lower back pain.

On one coaching session call, he and I were looking at other books in his niche and it came up that there was already an author who was THE expert in that field who had a book on how to heal lower back pain naturally. This worried me, because I couldn’t see the difference between his book and this expert’s book. Then, he rattled off how his was different. So, I told him, he needed to put that into his title so people would see that his was different and would want to buy it.

Without differentiating yourself, people will buy from the author they are already familiar with. But, if you have something new to add that is of interest to them, they will buy your book instead, or in addition to, the experts ebook or book.

So, you don’t try to come up with a topic that no one has ever written about because, usually, if no one is writing about a topic it’s because no one is interested in it. So you want to write on a subject that is already selling and find a new angle that will spark people’s interest and you’ll be on your way to publishing success!

Most authors don’t know where to start or what to do first. They are overwhelmed with too much information and not enough action. Sometimes, things like fear and doubt creep in. Other times, its confusion, lack of clarity or confidence that can stop authors in their tracks. Another big challenge for authors is feeling like their book has already been written… by somebody else.

Not to mention the maze of information out there about writing and publishing. Is it best to self-publish or try to get an agent and sell your manuscript? How important is it to build your platform? What are the first things to do to start writing your book? How can you leverage your book to grow your business? What do you do about “writer’s block?” How much will it cost to publish?

New Kindle Rules: Are They A Game Changer?

Wednesday, May 1st, 2013

kindle2Yes and No. Amazon has changed the Kindle rules but their effect depends on how you are publishing and what your goals are.

Having said this, you need to know what these new rules are, how they affect your business, and how to work with them, or you could lose any Amazon money that you’re entitled to in any given month. Plus, it could change your ebook-promotion strategies.

These changes are primarily focused on sites that promote free Kindle book releases each day, however, it will affect authors as well.

Your affiliate ID may not show up on more than 20 thousand free Kindle purchases a month AND at least one in in every five purchases must be for a paid Kindle book, or you will lose your amazon commissions in that month.

Plus, Amazon’s new rule counts all free ebook downloads, not just the ones linked to directly. So, if you go to one link but end up getting 3 free ebooks- they all count toward your total for that month.

So,how will this change promoting for authors?

If you are using affiliate partners to help you drive traffic to a KDP free-days offer, your affiliates may be less inclined to lend their support now that they will have limits places on the number of free ebooks they can promote.

On the other hand, if they don’t do it too often, it may not matter. Of course, if your ebook is SO popular that it goes viral and gets downloaded over 20,000 times in a month and less than one in five purchases that month are for paid ebooks, then it could be a problem.

It’s this second issue that makes it tricky. One purchase for every 5 free books is unrealistic given that most people who download ebooks only buy one for every fifteen free ones they download, according to Smashword’s statistics.

But, when you launch free for just a couple of days, and give awesome bonuses, I suspect the number of buyers will be a lot higher than 1 in 15. (I’m going to be launching a KDP offer here very soon, so I’ll keep you posted on the results! And if anyone else is doing one, please email me at and let me know how it works for you-thanks!)

If on the other hand, you are using KDP to build your subscriber list, then it won’t matter if you don’t get paid, and as I said, most books aren’t going to have 20,000 downloads so it won’t be an issue. It just may limit the number of times a month you can launch. And if you have affiliate links inside your ebooks, you can still make money that way through your links, however what you can’t do is have Amazon Associates affiliate links in your ebooks.

However, if you’d like to hedge your bets, the best thing to do is to figure out how to get people to buy more ebooks after they get the free one without putting Amazon affiliate links inside your ebooks.

I’ll be discussing how to publish on Kindle as well as some ways you can still use KDP launches without losing your commissions on Friday, May 3, 2013, 11 a.m.PDT/ 2 p.m. EDT on my latest webinar training: How To Publish Your eBook In Kindle And Add HUNDREDS of Buyers To Your Subscriber List Practically Overnight-New Rules!
