Before You Hire A Ghostwriter, Read This!

Friday, November 19th, 2010

I recently spoke with a customer who had had an ebook written for him along with a sales page.

The ebook was not easy to read because it was written in an academic style; it was written in the third person, and was not conversational but stiff.  But more importantly, the writer did not figure out who his target market was, instead he tried to write one ebook addressing two different markets which didn’t work well at all.

He should have done the research, found out which market was more receptive, and written that ebook. If there was a good market for the second one as well  he could have suggested that be the next ebook.

And the sales letter had major problems as well. First of all, there was no discernable headline-nothing to hook the reader or capture his or her imagination and getting them to want to read the rest of it.  And again, it was written in a dry academic style which never connected with the potential  buyer.

And the writer did not bother to figure out what would motivate the potential buyer to want this ebook-he or she never mentioned what problem it solved or what the true benefits were.

There were also no bonuses to enhance the offer and make it truly worth the price this entrepreneur wanted to charage for this ebook.

And some of the sections were out of order. For instance, you don’t give the guarantee before you give the cost.

So, this entrepreneur wasted a lot of money on this project because he was not educated and didn’t know what he really needed to make this project fly. Instead he was relying on the writer to do it properly.

The problem with this approach is that most writers don’t know how to do it the right way. They think that because they can write, they can write an ebook that will sell and copy that will sell. These are very distinct and learned skills that most writers don’t know how to do.  And if you don’t know what you don’t know it’s easy to get taken so you NEED to educate yourself!

The 1 eBook Solution: Laying The Groundwork For A 6-Figure Income!

Monday, November 15th, 2010

This is an excerpt from my ebook The 1 eBook Solution: The 12 secrets to turning a single ebook into a 6-figure income online (Even if you hate to write don’t know how to write or have never written).

In order to be successful, the first thing you have to do is look at: your passion, your skill set, your niche and your target market. And then, how to position yourself within that niche (which is your USP, or unique selling position and is based on what your target market wants). And, then you’ll need a Big Idea.

You have to know what you are passionate about and what you are good at or you won’t have much of a chance for success (unless you are purely motivated by money-which sounds like enough – but the truth is, for most people that gets old pretty fast.)

Passion is important because it makes you excited to work on your ebook and your business. And it will carry you through the rough patches (and as an entrepreneur everyone has them!)

And skill is important because if you aren’t good at what you want to do, you simply won’t succeed. Think about it; if you wanted to be a copywriter and you were slow and not very good at it you’d be lucky to get one job a month at $1500. But if your monthly nut was $3,000-which is not unreasonable-you’d go under pretty quickly. So you’ve got to be passionate AND have the skills to succeed.

Once you’ve figure out your passion and you skill set, you’ll know what niches are viable. You want to pick the one with the lowest hanging-fruit; that’s the one that will be easiest for you to succeed at.

To find it, you’ll have to do some research. Start by doing a Google search. See if there are a lot of businesses in that niche. Dig deeper. Find out how that industry is doing in general in the current economy. If you can, talk to business owners in that niche and get their take on the industry.

If you find a niche that nobody else is pursuing, don’t get too excited. It could be that there is no money to be made in it. To be successful, you want to find a niche that is already popular, where there is a lot of money to be made, where you can add a new twist, a new delivery system-something to improve upon what is already out there.

Find blogs in that niche at www.technorati.com, Look at Facebook Groups, Do a twitter search at www.search.twitter.com/ See what people are hungry for in that niche and see if you can figure out how to give them what they want that they are not already getting.

Once you’ve got that figured out, you need to know your unique selling position, because once you know this, it will help you figure out what to write about and what angle you want to take that will make you special and make people want to come to you over everyone else in your niche. (It will be based on what excites you and what the research has revealed about your target market and their wants and needs.) You will also use it in all of your marketing materials to let people know exactly who you are, and what you have to offer beyond your ebook.

Sometimes people know what their BIG IDEA is before they figure out their unique selling position, sometimes it comes as they do the research and study the competition. Other times, it evolves over time. But ultimately, you want to have one.

Rich Schefren “Guru to the guru’s” calls this “The Core Concept”, “It’s a Big Idea which can be wrapped around a product and turned into a best-seller, a sales-presentation, and transformed into a high-converting totally dialed sales-pitch, a marketing campaign that commands premium prices while igniting skyrocketing sales and so on…”

To me it’s the core idea that you want to build your business around.

Internet Marketing: 3 Steps To Breaking Through The Barriers To A 6-Figure Income!

Friday, November 12th, 2010

If you aren’t making as much money as you’d like on line, if you keep coming up against the same issue time after time, if you’re frustrated but you’re soldiering on…it may not be what you think that’s holding you back.

So many people on line go from product to product, looking for the magic bullet that is going to get then the financial freedom they desire only to have it elude them time and time again.  And then they sit there saying
“What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I do this? Other people are doing this. I’m as smart as the next person.  So what’s the problem?”

And if this sounds familiar, if  it happens no matter what program or what system you are using to try to make money then the problem isn’t how to make money online, the problem is YOU.

But, it’s not your fault.  You’re  a product of the environment you  grew up in, what you were told about yourself, and what you believed to be true about yourself based on what you were told.   And, it got carried  over into adulthood.

So if you find you’re working too hard and  don’t want to ask for help for fear of being turned down, or you keep bringing people on board who don’t work out, or you’re constantly behind schedule, or you don’t think you deserve the success you want so badly, and these are just a few of   a milion of the clues that there’s a problem  (it’s different for each person), you’re not going to succeed.

So how do you break through?

Step 1: The first thing you have to do is recognize the pattern.  And that’s not always as easy as it sounds because it’s so ingrained that sometimes you don’t even know you’re running one. But if you keep a journal, you can sometimes start to see a pattern emerge. Or, if you know you’ve got a pattern then you’re ready to go to step two.

Step 2 is DECIDE  that you are going to  change it.

Step 3. If you can’t do it on your own get help.

For some people it might mean finding a therapist to work with, for others it might mean self-help. And if you fall into the second category, I’ve put together an After Veteran’s Day  5-audio training program  that is amazing.

In this series, you’ll learn from best-selling authors and Ph.D’s Judith Sherven and Jim Sniechowski about what’s holding you back, and the fear of being fabulous,  also, obstacles to writing an ebook and perfectionism and procrastination from me, Ellen Violette, The eBook Coach, and a lot more!

So if you want to learn more check out the After Veteran’s Day Special-it will show you the way out!

1 eBook Solution: How I Made A 6-figure Income Starting With An eBook And How You Can Too!

Friday, November 5th, 2010

“The 1-eBook Solution” arose out of the journey that I took to create a 6-figure income online for myself in 2 ½ years (I have students who are now doing it in half that time because they don’t have to make all the mistakes I made!)

I started out writing and fixing copy for people but I was floundering. Then I found ebooks and everything changed. I found my niche, and I started branding myself with a single ebook that I wrote in less than 72 hours.

I gave away over 3,000 copies of that first ebook as a bonus offer before I starting selling it. During that time I invited my subscribers to a two-part free teleseminar series where I sold the transcripts for $9.97. From there, I invited them into my first Quick-Start 3-Day eBook Authoring Workshop.

In the meantime, I studied with many of the top experts to learn how to market.

I quickly learned that each expert had a piece of the puzzle but putting it all together was another matter entirely. So I took what I had learned from all of them, plus my own experience, created my own 6-figureincome and then my ebook-marketing program which became eBook Profit Marketing Secrets. from which “The 1-eBook Solution” was born.
